I'm not even going to say much about this.. I was giving traxxas good word of mouth after seeing the slash, but this lets the air out of their balloon. I just don't see why they are so content with mediocre rigs.

I certainly haven't been involved in RC's as long as some of you have been. But from what I've seen so far, Traxxas seems to gear most of they're stuff towards the general masses. With the hope of selling more units, instead of making specific rigs designed to do only one thing. Granted they took the Revo and made a racing edition, but that was only after they sold a ton of them.
Even though most of us can see how big crawling is getting and will continue to to do so, it seems to me it hasn't gotten big enough in Traxxas' eyes to make a dedicated rig for it yet. I might just be talking out my back-side too so please carry on.

Traxxas is doing more to bring new people into RC than any other company. It's a foot in the door! How many of us only have one rig? Thats right--no one! Crawling is still a niche that is growing. Say a kid gets a Summit for Christmas. Cool dad, thanks! Then one day he is out bashing his rig and comes across Charlie. "Wow, sir, that is a nice truck! What is it?" Next thing you know he is wanting a comp rig of his own. Axial gets a call. The whole hobby benfits! Remember when the Tmaxx came out? It changed the hobby!

Really, does anyone want a crawler RTR from Traxxas? Sure, it will be nice when there are a few more players in the crawler game, but thus far when the discussion of Axial RTR's comes up everyone says "Get an ARTR!" I haven't heard much about the Duratrax crawler--maybe 'cause it's RTR and no one is buying them?

Not trying to start a war here, just trying to stimulate some positive thinking. We are all here because we share an addiction. Some will love a truck that others hate. That is the beauty of this hobby. Life would be real dull if all we had was a Tmaxx!

Chip, you're probably right. BMiller, keep dreaming buddy!

That was absolutely hillarious about the mall crawler.

I don't think there's anyone here on the forum that can outcrawl Chip, just because of the experience he has, and he's a dam good driver. However, he's not that good in bed. I was quite dissapointed really.

Good thing this came out when it did. Woodie might need a larger server than originally expected, because of all the threads that will be popping up saying "How do I get my Summit ready to be a competition crawler" and "Hey guys, what do you think of the Traxxas summit, I want to get into crawling"

And Cody, if you're interested in the Duratrax, there is tons of information on it on the crawler forums. It's a nice little rig and can be built into a bad little crawler if someone knows how to set it up.

Also, I do agree with you guys that if Traxxas made a crawler it would be great for the sport. However I don't think this should be considered a crawler any more than an E-Maxx. In fact, the E-Maxx actually has way more potential.

I don't know what I want, Charlie. Thinking about an Axial ARTR but need some suggestions on parts to build up a budget-basher.

I just think the Summit will bring new people into the hobby. I mean it looks bad ass even if it's just a hybrid. It's a new class of truck! Welcome to the RCNT Hybrid Thread!!!

"You wouldn't show up to play a world cup game in flip flops, don't show up to a crawling competition with a Cul-de-sac Cadillac."

That is brilliant, Charlie!

I want one!! its versatile and i think that will appeal to a large audience... sure its not a crawler but it appears to be a very capable truck...

And as to untested equipment the only thing that is really new being the diffs.
i mean the chassis and electronics aren't new and neither is the tranny its just a revised e-maxx tranny..

I think that it will actully sell pretty well. The only people it isnt practical for is comp crawler guys... Its totally awesome for most people that just like to bash and throw in some rocks..

just my .02

Yes it will appeal to a large consumer group.... but no expierenced RC hobbiest cares about the masses... Only how it work out for one hobbiest... you! For most people in RCNT it's just not what they are looking for.
Personally I think it looks like a nice rig. But Traxxas has a way to make thier products look good in thier advertising. And later dissapoint. As for how well the locking diffs work, lets wait and see. Hell as for the whole truck, I can't wait to read up on what people think that actually own one!

yea if i have the cash when they come out i may just pick one up...

newb perspective

I am intrigued. Having no real r/c experience other than the Tyco Turbo hopper I had when I was 9, I want this rig to sit right next to a Slash under the tree at Christmas time.

I love hearing about crawlers and what you guys do to and with them. But I also love the idea of just setting a truck loose anywhere and letting it run, flip, jump and crash and then fix what broke and do it all over again.

So I think, personally, getting a truck like this will help me decide where in the hobby I really want to go. So if I do decide I want a "real crawler", I can still use the Summit to bash or I can give to my son when he turns three.

I will say this, Traxxas definitely knows how to get attention, good or bad.

I wonder what would happen if one tried to put a Brushless in this thing? Sense the transmission has to types of speed and torq, I wonder if it would screw something up badly? Also, if you could make one of these puppies BL, what kind of ESC would work with it and not get toasted?

Probably the cc sidewinder as it takes lots of voltage and turns BIG motors and power

Awesome thread

Wow, this is quite honestly one of the most fun threads I have read in quite some time...anywhere. The conflicting opinions, pro's and cons over this truck..great. For those who are opposed to this truck need to look at the attention to the hobby this one vehicle alone has stirred. Sure, I'm relatively new to what's recent in the rc market and have been looking into crawler as well to take along on jeep trips and play with durning recovery efforts or lunch breaks. Granted, not competition. But the set up of this thing looks very versatile. And if draws as many consumers as it does opinions, the aftermarket options for this will be awesome. I decided against comp level crawlers just because...well, it's slow and I like the occasional jump and figured I'd save the crawling budget for my jeep. However something I can crawl around with on the trail fairly well with over rocks and logs and turn around launch makeshift ramps at the trail head makes this a seriously considered purchase for me. I dont care that it will neither race or crawl at competion level but the fact that it can do both with relative competence is just perfect. Those that are complaining about not having solid axles are obviously full scale wheelers. You just don't get the same articulation from independent suspension on full scale rigs as solid axles, but this seems to articulate just fine.
As far as being based on a revo...is this really a problem? I have a revo so I may be a little biased, sure, but it's durability has far surpassed my expectations and has proven more durable on our "little iraqi track" than any other rig out here, to include other traxxas products like the t-maxx. broken a-arms, hubs, steering are common place here and I haven't broke a thing other than tears in the tires and chips in the wheels, lost slipper clutch pad, and a very thrashed body, my revo has gone unabashed by the abuse i dish out. I can only pray this thing is as durable as the revo it obviously based on.
Give me another month for taxes to come in and I'll be sure to give you all full report on how this thing works out. While typing this I totally talked myself into getting one. Even though i was hoping to avoid the battery cost of electric.
