I am just wondering if the Traxxas break in procedure is the best way forward or are there better alternatives?
Thanks

I've never personally done the heat cycle break in method but I've heard and read that it is much better for the life of a motor. All the serious racers break in with this method from the reading I've done its not that hard to do either. If you search around on this site there will be some threads on heat cycling or just make a thread asking how to use this method of break in

The traxxas one is the best way IMO. although idling thru first tank wouldnt hurt but you still need to gradually break in on flat solid ground over a few tanks before performance tuning.

Come to think of it i think i read somewhere not to use the heat cycle method on trx engines i can't remember y tho. and as zdragon said it doesn't hurt to idle around for first tank instead of sitting it on the box. It will get temps up a lil higher and not put as much stress on the piston

If you're a beginner, the traxxas method works just fine....but you have to follow it exactly as it's written.

Ok thanks guys, I think I will just stick to the Traxxas one then as there doesn't seem to be people saying that it would destroy my motor :D hopefully I will be starting my first ever break today! wish me luck!

Use a hair dryer or heat gun to pre heat the engine before trying to start each time until breakin is done. This will help the starting process and help free the piston if it by chance gets stuck top dead center between runs. I still do so with cold engines after a couple gallons has been run thru mine.

I dont have a hair dryer in the house so would just holding it over a heater work? how hot does the engine need to get?

Go buy you a cheap travel hair dryer to use. Or borrow one from someone. I heat mine up to at least 150 and i dont believe holding it over a heater is gonna get anywhere close to hot enough.

It's ok to start it at room temperature, but it's better if it's warmed up. Warming it up will loosen the fit between the piston and sleeve, which is good for a tight new engine.

well I dont know exactly how hot it got but it was to hot to touch

obviously I don't want to be doing that every time I start the car but up until I can get something els this may work?
