Transponder help

Well depends which track uses what. Talk to the local racers or the race director at that track.

Speaking from experience MOST would use either Mylaps 2 or 3 wire transponders with the Mylaps decoder (depending on decoder some might work with the older syle AMBrc transponders) with LiveRC (or RCScoringPro) scoring system.

Or use Trackmate which is a cheaper alternative but it uses IR lazer so you would need a clear part of cutout in the body for it.

Example: This is a Mylaps RC4 3 wire. Runs for 110 bucks.

Trackmate IR transponders are usually cheaper. 20 bucks on eBay.
MRT (depends on track decoder) should also work. Bit cheaper than mylaps around 80 bucks.
Example of a race in the LiveRC scoring system:

What David listed is accurate, but don't forget there are some areas of the country that use the ILaps transponder system as well. It is also a "line of sight" transponder. It requires a clear part of the body or a small hole for the transponder to look for the timing bar to pass over head. I know a lot of tracks down here in the southern tip of Texas use the ILaps system. Transponders are about 40 bucks, and to get the timing loop can vary depending on how many sensors you need, but is still significantly cheaper than a mylaps timing loop.

I'm headed to Texas to see some relatives and one of the days it's kinda splitting up, so my uncle and I are headed to a track. Were looking for one in the Dallas metro area, preferably towards Plano.
