ok, I got my Hardcore tranny case this week and I've been working on transferring components this morning. I am swapping top shaft gearing and primaries with RRP stuff. First thing I encountered was how tough it was to get the bearings into there place. I just dremeled it a tad.. no problem. Is this fairly normal? Ok, so I went to put the cases together with all the components and they wouldn't fit flush so I took it apart and fiddled with a couple things. I did notice that there were 2 shims between the primary forward gear and the 1st gear spur (even though the Traxxas blow up manual only shows 1). So I took 1 of the shims out. I also readjusted the drive hub clutch with the drive shaft. After putting it all back together it seemed to fit fine and everything rotated freely.... untill I tightened down the tranny case screws... now the top shaft would rotate nice in one direction (clockwise) but was real real tight in the opposite. So I took it apart again and took out the other shim between the primary forward and 1st gear spur... Reassembled and everything seems perfect. Everything is nice and secure and everything rotates freely. Am I going to encounter any excess wear since I no longer have a shim between the forward primary and 1st gear spur? The forward primary is RRP steel and I believe it's now in contact with the 1st gear spur's bearing case (which is probably stainless steel I would imagine)
sorry for the long post but I thought I'd give as much details as possible
