is it possible ????? have a 2.5r ab mods and i think I'm running too rich at WOT i have alot of blue smoke but the engine seem to run too hot ... the engine have a colling head like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Revo-silver...ries?hash=item3ef81272d6&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I'm new to rc world so i dont have a temp gun but its seem that the engine is really hot cause when I'm running the engine for a while 2-3 minute at wot in the hard sand .the car have less power and i can't touch at all the cooling head and my glow plug is white ... so what can i do it seem pretty rich to me cause a lot of blue smoke coming out ...

and I've check my carburator and figure that its doesn't open completely with the remote is it normal ???

well i dont know if u know this but traxxas engines are known to run a lot better in higher temperatures..some motors run like a raped ape at 250 and then traxxas engine could run the same way but at like 290...go by where it runs best not temp..worry about temps when your running bad at like 300 then stop!!!

i understand but witout a guntemp its hard ... and why my car decrease significantly in performance when is hot ???

most carburator troubles are electrical. just a joke from when i did a lot street truck carbs

First, If you want to stick with the hobby, get a temp gun. I dont mean to be rude but it is a must have. I have a temp gun and an on-board temp guage. I like the on-board better cause it gives me a constant read of temp. also it will tell me high temp for that run. You can get either kind for around 20 dollars. Look at thread" nitro tuning tips and flow chart". It perfectly explains how to get the most out of your engine. Once your engine is tuned according to that chart dont worry about heat unless you go over 300 for a sustained time, or see steam coming from inside the cooling head(by the glow plug). Also remember that air temp will affect engine temp. If it is hotter out that when you tuned it, the engine will be hotter. And vise-versa. This is not a problem as long as it is running right. Hope this helps.

but why my car is running with good performance for 2-3 minutes at wot and after that loose alot of power ... ? and if i tune the engine when its hot when i start the engine on cold startup its really hard to keep the idle ..

Sort out the carb linkage issue and retune it. Remember when you are in a low traction area such as sand you need to richen the needles up. Excess wheelspin causes the engine to rev higher than normal and overheat.
Bottom line...you cannot tune an engine proerly with a malfunctioning linkage.
Traxxas linkages, especially the Revo are a very poor design. They are very prone to binding. Do what you have to so the linkage works smoothly without the servo atached. Custom make some parts if need be. No special tools are really needed. Then invest in a 130 oz inch torque servo for throttle and brakes. The Traxxas servos are junk, even their new digital ones. Buy a Hitec 5625 or Hobbico TS-160.

i had the same problem with my 3.3 so i whent out and got in onbord temp gage and i hads a bad cooling so i changed that out and put a new one on it and changed the gasket to the head to a thecker one sinse I'm runing 33% nitro it helped out.

thx guy i bought a new servo and it solve my carbs problem now its run even better then before :)I'm running around 280 so its not that bad (i bougth a temp gun too finaly ).

men nitro rc is not a hobby its a parttime job !!!!! so much ajustment to make ...even more when you bought a used one that was completely not setup correctly ...

first my front axel wasn't on it when i purchase it (the guy told me that he loved it better RWD) but the real problem was that he put the from diff in thw wrong way !!!!!!.
after that I've got servo issue i goes trough the breakin (new ab mod engine on it). got alot of problem to set it up correctlly ...
after that I've got transmission issue a gear was totally worn out totaly dissable the whole thing ... and now i figured that my throttle servo was too weak ... and that i got a faulty steering servo ...and my micro servo for the reverse was dead... OMG SO MUCH TROUBLE..
the suspension was not correctly set and the ajustement for the second gear was so early that it was always in 2 gear...now everyting seem to be alrigth after a month !!! but for how much time ???
