RC Driving Style
Well I spent most of last evening wrenching. I took my shocks off, cleaned them, filled them with a heavier oil(50wt) and changed springs...I am looking for a bit less sag in the rear...(see other thread). I also took out my center diff and changed the oil to 300k. That stuff is a pain in the %%% to work with...I think I am going to buy a baby med syringe and see if I can use that for loading diff oil..The bottle traxxas comes in is handy...but they don't carry 300k as far as I know...Anyway, I ran with the 300k in today and loved it. It really did improve the "ballooning" effect and control was better overall. Anyway, It was a short but fun session...I got her dirty and rolled her a couple times....No damage...Just another excuse to keep messing with my suspension set-up...LOL

Have a good one,

Hawk

What springs did you use?

On my BB revo, I'm running P3 rockers/rods, blue springs and I think 40 weight. It sags on power, but runs and jumps much better than it did with P2 rockers.

Olds,

I have been reading about the P3's and may pick up a set of them, with the appropriate arms and such. I may go ahead and buy the lundsford rods for that set up. When I tried to run the blues with 40wt...It was too stiff...LOL When I hit bumps or landed, they seemed to stiff...I will revisit them with the P3's. I am also looking to get set up for some "recreational racing" at my LHS....So that is sort of why I am looking at handling issues...I am really impressed with the 300k oil in the Center Diff....Actually helped it "recover" faster when accelerating out of the turn...Of course I think that is what its supposed to do..Anyway, like I said in the other thread...thanks for the help.

Always good to get a good day of bashing in............I go back and forth between the diff oil weights ....still looking for the holy grail....

If blue is too stiff with P2's, then they will be way too stiff with P3's.

What did it do that makes you think it was too stiff? Bounce instead of absorb bumps?

EDIT: I'm not sure why I said "maxx" in my earlier post... it's a revo. I don't even have a maxx anymore!

Yes, They bounced, and I knew you meant "Revo". I may try them again as I spent some time on the shocks last night and the first time I may have done a poor job "filling them" as far as air in them...I was much more patient this time around...Are you using #2's inside the shock?

Keep in mind that mines a BB, so it's heavier.

I ran 40 weight w/silver springs and P2 rockers when I was running the 2.5R and the 18TM. It bottomed out with 3+ feet of air, but it didn't get unstable and it didn't sag too bad. With the BB, it bottomed out really easy and sagged all the time. That's when I tried blue, but that still wasn't enough. So I went with P3's.

I could probably go back to silver with the P3's and get a softer feel, but it's ok right now. I haven't jumped high a lot, but 3-4 feet of air gets handled much better now.

I got ya, that BB probably makes a real difference in the weight...That might be the difference in with the "bounce" I had. What I may try is 60-70 weight and then maybe the "heat" will make up for the heavier oil weight. 50 may just not be a heavy enough oil to run the tan springs with my set up. At rest and when first running it does not sag nearly as bad. The only jumps I really make are "natural ones" I really haven't grabbed too much AIR yet....I am still learnin how to drive the thing and looking for a good set up for "control". I went with the lower bump steer settings with some of the other changes I made and really like the way it handles...I am just messing around withsome of Slaydon's race set ups to get used to different characteristics...When it dries up some, I am going to head to the track at the LHS and spend the day driving and learning...

Yeah... I don't race. Basher to the bone. Knowing race settings serves no purpose for me. All the race settings I've read are way too soft for my bashing needs.

I can understand that...I do see why everyone ends up with more than one of these things...I really want to have one to "bash" with...I will be bashing a heck of alot more than racing though...So I hope to eventually be very well rounded when it comes to these rides...And I will eventually save up enough money to pick up a roller that I can drop a BB in and beat the heck out of...I would like to take One of Talon's off his hands but it is getting way too close to Bass Tournament Season and that means entry fees, gas money, and hotel stays....So many hobbies, so little "disposible income". Anyway, enjoyed taking shop with ya...I gotta hit the hay...Thanks for the tips

So how hard is it to change the diff oil? I really shoud do this concidering that I am going to race it but I'm just concerned to take everything appart. I'm also waiting because I want to get the Steel drive shafts that traxxas is coming out with in May so maby i will maby ill wait. By the way, Nothing beats a good day of bashing, noting.

Bryson,

They are not hard to work on at all. I used denatured alcohol to clean the "metal" parts and shafts. Make sure you remove the blue rubber gaskets off of the the shafts before you soak them. I am sure the DA would be hard on the gaskets. Just make sure you pay attention to the orientation of the gears within the diff cup and housing. The 10k, 30k, and 50k from Traxxas are very easy to use in the bottle....The Center Diff Oils 300k and 500k from Koyosho(Sp?) are a pain in the ***. I am going to buy a baby syringe and try to use that for load. If not, use a popsicle stick or something like that to smear it into the diff. I filled it to the pins inside...level...Also be carefule handling the gasket found in all the diffs. It seems really delicate. It needs to go back on a specific way....make sure the holes line up perfectly before you tighten it down. Anyway, you should not find it too difficult. Have a good one....

PS-I bought spare front and rear diffs and will probably purchase a couple more off of Ebay so I can have them pre-loaded with different weights...That way when I want to experiment its a matter of a drop in quick change.....

I use this very same strategy....you can get them cheep on the Bay and it make switching them out a breeze........

BTW there HAWK screw the Bass tourny....buy another REVO .....you NEED it.....really just fish better and win more money....;)

J/K...........but I would like to get these trucks into the hands of folks like you, who will appreciate them....not some Ebay punk....who has a thoudsand questions and wants me to set it up to do wheelies before I ship it.........LOL

Believe it or not, My partner and I had a great season last year....One mental blunder in the circuit championship probably cost us actually "making a profit". In tournament fishing, like any other "hobby", breaking even is considered great...especially when not doing it for a living. If we are blessed enough to earn a few checks this year, I can bet ya that at least some of my winnings are going to be destined for the the purchase a "new" ride. The thought of building a new "savage x" really appeals to me....as does finding a Revo roller to mod up and bash like crazy....Lets just hope the fishing gods are on our side this year....

Take Care,

Hawk
