Well I have had 2 nitro rc cars with a 2.5 rustler being my latest one and the one I use today. Both cars I had have had EZ start so I was wondering if I should use pullstart instead of ezstart since sometimes it gets in the way and stuff. But if you all could tell me the advantages and disadvantages over ezstart would be great!

P.S I tried searching but it kept giving me some error about the word length.

LOL...unfortunately the search engine does not like two letter words like EZ.

The only known advantage to the EZ start system is the fact that you do not get worn out trying to start your engine. It is kind of like sticking the key into the ignition of your car and turning.

The disadvantages that I can think of off the top are pretty numerous:
1. Additional weight on truck for the EZ start motor and gear assembly.
2. The batteries in the EZ start are prone to getting sucked dry pretty quick.
3. The EZ start unit is more cumbersome to carry around than most glo-ignitors.
4. The infamous blue wire to the glo-plug usually gets toasted pretty quickly, making the use of a separate glo-ignitor a must.

The advantages of the pull start are the opposite of most of the EZ start disadvantages.

There are maybe one or two known disadvantages to a pull start:
1. May get blisters from pull starting your engine
2. Some pull starts are not as strong as others...ie they break often.
3. Not as easy as the lazy man's tool...the EZ start.

The choice is yours...I dumped my EZ start almost immediately in favor of a pull start engine. I haven't looked back, since.

Cool thx thats what I was looking for, I'm now going to get rid of the ezstart. Could you link me to a good pullstart and glow ignitor for the 2.5 engine?

O and is anyone interested for a ezstart 2 system with controller? for $15 plus shipping? I could include a battery pack (pirahna) and Charger (Tower Hobbies brand) for an addtional $15 dollars.

When I had a stock engine in my maxx I loved my easy start. I don't race it so I did not care about the extra weight. But...one I went to an OS engine, I used an adapter plate to put the easy start on my OS (not a big fan of blisters) but the trx one way bearings are just not strong enough to handle the compression of the OS engines. I would destroy a bearing every two or three times out. So now its pull starts for me on my OS.

Damn, NM, i just replied to the crash thread started by Scummer, and replied here...well, you know.

IMO, trade that POC (piece of crap) in for something better, if you can...

gthang, for a car yes, a starter box is nice. But on a T, no can do, you can't bump start a T with a standard starter box. For a 4tec or rustler, no problem. Good call though.

ummm, can you use starter boxes on the Nitro MT by HPI, because the chassis is the same as the RS4 3 Type SS.

if you want something more universal, try HGI's Yank Eliminator, which fits any cordless drill. its $29.95 (MSRP).

I see no reason one would not work on the hpi nmt, as you mentioned it uses the same chassis as the RS4. Since I am not familiar with the exact set up of the nmt, the only thing I could see not allowing the box to work would be the engine mount, I know there are pull start mounts and bump start mounts, I have no idea whats on the nmt.

IMO there's no replacement for a good engine. By a good engine I mean one that starts reliably and easily. My Hyper 8 and Picco 26 both start on the first couple of pulls. An EZ start, starter box, Rotostart and that other thing are all extra stuff you gotta drag around.

The EZ start is the only good thing about the 4Tec, I got one and it's POS as far as a car goes. I have a roto, and it's not installed on any of my engines. My Hyper is on a buggy, but I don't race so I don't need a starter box, though if I did race I probably would use one. The other thing is just a roto without the battery holder/motor starter part, you still have to put the backplate thing on the engine.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but that's my opinion (which is based on my experience).

my hyper has a pull start and I race my buggy. what your logic with the starter-box/racing thing?

The PS racing topic has been covered before, I play race it, but usually get smoked by the racing engines w/o the PS.
