Thinking about a motor upgrade for an XXX-S ... I see some motors have adjustable timing. What exactly will being able to adjust the timing do. :wasted:

When you adjust motor timing you can get higher RPM or more TORQUE.

Do not advance timing past 20,or at maxxx 25 timing.Or you may shorten its life and gain next to nothing in return.

Know that advancing timing will accelerate comm wear, generate more heat and your run times will be shorter. A normal effect of producing more power in the end.

OK Thanks. So more RPM's or Torque will depend on the motor's manufactuer or ?

First given you use six cells the lower the turn the faster the motor will be.

Take a 9 turn wind and compare it to a 19 turn and no timing will help the 19 turn even come close to a lower turn with timing at 0.

Torque depends on the permanent magnets used in the sator(the mags fixed to the motor can)also a higher turn motor will have more torque.

A 27 turn stock with strong permanent magnets willhave plenty of torque as a low tun mod using the same permanent magnets will have much lesser torque.

And then you have 12 tun single, double tripe and quad.A 12 turn single uses one thicker wire would 12 times around each rotor pole.A double you have TWO wires would 12 times,a triple ...THREE wires would 12 times around each pole.

So a 13turn triple has more torque where it counts than a 13turn single.

OK Thanks a lower turn motor it is. I'm running a Losi xxx-s and I'm thinking about getting all the top speed I can get.. I'm running in a large smooth asphalt lot.. any recomendations. for motor or gears?? :devious:

A bit late to answer.

Anyways, look at a 9turn Team Orion or Trinity Cobalt mod, both top notch performers. Gearing use a mid sized pinion, should prevent any overheating and with a low turn you are looking around 35-40MPH top speed. You could use a larger pinion but run times before the motor gets very hot would be shorter.

:arrr: Thanks! thats the info I'm looking for ....looking on ebay for a set of pinions and whould love to buy a new motor!!
