you should not and dont have to heat them up..remember that one side of the threads are reversed so you can adjust while on your rig.. if the hole is small to start with take a raser and funnel out the tip a little bit to get it started.. they are a pain in the neck, i know. the reason they dont come threaded is for a tight fit..
 
If you got 2 bags of the black end connectors then one bag is left hand thread, and the other is right hand. If they were all in one bag, they are not threaded yet, as itsalifeworthliving says. They will be tough to get started. Just make sure you know which way the thread is going before you start turning them. Put an allan wrench in the center of the rod to make the threading process easier.
 
OMG, are you serious? Reverse threads? You don't know how long I've been working on this! I was like WTH? One side went on easy enough, why can't I get the other side on? Thanks for the help, they went on fine now.
