I have alway heard the opposite too. The piston should be at the bottom of the stroke, or at least not stuck in tdc.

lol - actually no. I meant it to be up high. I only do it for the first couple of tanks and thats it. But it has never seemed to have a negative impact on a mill yet. Its not even possible to get it Top Dead Center by hand within the first 6 tanks. Only high, but no way is it going top.

The reason I do it is to HOPE that when it cools down, there is some formation happening. Where the piston and sleeve actually conform to eachother. Being as they are in direct contact, one wont form differently from the other (thats my concept and I'm sticking to it hehehe)

I've been having great results so far and think it actually helps my break-in process.

But what the hell do I know, I'm not a metalurgy expert.

I've just read soooooooo many differnt way of breaking in an engine, from so many different manufacturers, that I seen no reason to not try something a little different. Seems as if all the manufacturers feel the same way. About doing something different that is.

Again, not TOP DEAD CENTER, just up high. When a mill is new, you shouldnt even be able to reach top dead center by hand.
 
Well, whenever someone I know needs something broken, the ask me... I've broken many a 4-way lug wrench taking off lug nuts.

I set mine to BDC and have been getting good results as well. To each his own.
 
Trust me, if it bites me in the ass, I will let everyone know.

I have a new RB WS 7 II that I have to break-in here real soon. Will keep you posted on the results with this one.
 
Dido. Whenever I try something different and it works I let people know. Also, if it doesn't work, it's better to eat crow and let everyone know as well so they don't waste their time. RC bashing can be a very humbling hobby.
 
That's part of the humbling. It's nuts the kind of money we throw at these things. If I had as much into it as some of you other guys (cough El P cough) my stomach would permanently hurt every time I bashed!
 
Hmmm every heat cycling type of instruction I have read said to leave it at BDC. If it works though than hey it works
 
I'm ordering a modded Picco .26 for my buggy. I'm sure I'm going to have to beef the hell out of the drive train but I think it will be worth it. The goal is to try to duplicate the house jump vid at the ECBII.

Holy crap Yeah I can't wait to see that either. House jump with the savage that vid will live in infamy on quite a few boards. I knew RCNT was special.
 
nah I'm getting the engine for the buggy not the Savage. But that would be kewl as HELL!!!!!!!
