I bought her last summer and only got to break her in about 95%. I then brought it inside and it has sat for a great deal of time. I was dumb and didnt take the fuel out of tank before I let it sit and now it wont start.

I have tried a new glow plug, new fuel and fuel lines but I can't even get fuel to move at all. I have reset the needles to factory settings and still no go. The one-way bearing appears to be fine.

Not sure what in the world is wrong with it. I have thought about taking it to the local hobby shop to see what they say but I am gathering that will be exspensive. My only other alternative is to list it on ebay. Not too sure I will have the time to dedicate to fix/use it.

You guys think I have an exspensive problem here? Do hobby shops charge alot to look at them? Or should I just upgrade the motor? Sorry for the dumb newb questions, just want to make sure I dont get worked over on getting it repaired and/or sold.

Thanks!

Adding a pic for those that care to see it

you say you can't ger fuel to move at all?...you may just need to clean your fuel tank or get a new one there fairly cheap ...try taking the fuel line off the pipe and off the carb
blow into the line that connects to the pipe can you feel any air coming out the other line? if not clean / replace the tank ...you may also have to remove the carb and remove the high & low speed needles and flush out the carb with nitro

EDIT.. also the last time you ran it when you were done did you put any after run oil in the engine ..are you able to turn the engine over?

Most likely your carb is gummed up. As the nitro in the system begins to evaporate you are left with only the oil, as it sits it will gum up the needles so that the fuel wont be able to pass through the carb. At any rate I would just disassemble the entire mill, clean it thouroughly, and hopefully that will get you running again. Don't get frustrated and sell it because of a little problem, get that sucker running again then go out and tear it up.

yeah regular nitro ....did you take the lines off and try blowing through them...did you get any air through?

Well, some good news is, the piston moves freely when I turn the flywheel and it sounds like there is PLENTY of compression still there. (Should be since it is new :D )

Just remember when you reinstall the needles not to overtighten them. Don't wrench em real tight, just till they bottom out, or you can damage the needle seat. Other than that there is really nothing to it, take it apart and clean everything with denatured alcohol. Also take off the fuel tank and clean it too. Just put some denatured alcohol in the tank, swish it around good, then put a piece of fuel tubing on the pressure line on the tank lid and blow the alcohol out through the fuel pickup. I would also replace the fuel lines, it's cheap enough to do why you have it apart.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

i was trying to get you going with the least amount of pain ...but ncnitro is right you really should take the whole engine apart and clean it all ...if your really uncomfortable doing that cleaning the carb will probily get you going ...did you use after run oil after the last time you ran it?

hmm glad I'm reading this ..for some reason i thought denatured alcohol would be bad for rubber like the orings in the carb ...thats great da is much cheaper than nitro

Well, I was using nitro but I still have it apart so I can use DA. I didnt use after-run oil the last time I used it. I dont even think I knew about it. Things are looking fairly clean from what I can see by just taking the carb off. I will put it back together and if this doesn't work then I will look at taking the engine off. That looks like it might be pretty damned involved though :\

"That looks like it might be pretty damned involved though"

That is part of owning nitro. most of the time fun, sometimes not.

i can't tell did you take the needles out of the carb? you will have to do this if theres a problem it will be there ... do you have a manual taking the engine out is no big deal at all
but you will need a manual to work from ...i think you can find one on the hpi website

I have the manual in case I need to take the engine apart. Yes I did take the needles out of the carb when I cleaned it. I just got everything back together except the gas tank. Still waiting for that to dry out.

I hope this works...... If I can see fuel moving then I know I have that problem solved. Lets just hope it starts too!

Well, the good news is that it is moving fuel again. Bad news is it didnt start yet. My roto start ran out of charge so I have to wait a few while that charges up. I am hoping at this point it is just needle adjustments.

SInce you have yet to complete the break in, I would reset the needles to factory. Take your plug out and light er up with the ignitor to verify the plug works still. Also you may want to purge your engine of fuel in there to make sure it isn't hydrolocked with fuel. YOu can damage your engine, your hand and pullstart ( if you used a pullstart) or your rotostart gears in the backplate. Turn the truck upside down. Pinch the fuel line going to the carb and then engage your rotostart. If you have any fuel this will come out of the plug hole. Then put the plug back in and try again.

Well..................IT WORKS!!!! After I charged up the roto start she fired right up! I was most happy. I started with a half tank of fuel and it took some readjusting of the needles but that didnt take too long.

Now for problem #2 I noticed that when I am right around a 1/4 tank she starts to lean out a bit and run beautiful!! Shifts into second like butter. Isnt there a mod you can do to fix this? I dont remember if and what it is called

Thanks again for the info!

Problem # 2 well that is the case for most nitro rides. The best thing to do is to change to an Ofna one. do a search for that in the savage talk forum here. Its there. If you don't find it I will help you find it
