is the 5 port version better than the 3 port? whats the difference between the 5 port and 3 port? I'm not planning on racin but rather just planning on bashing, anybody got this engine can tell me how it is?

Ok don't quote me on this. You can PM raffaelli as he is affliated with ROAR. I think the .12 3 port is legal for racing and the 5 port may not be. Things did change last year and I think they were pushing to make 5 ports legal but like I said don't quote me. So on to what is better since you are not racing. The 5 port makes a little higher final rpm and in turn has a litttle more hp. They claim it is .8 hp difference. You decide what is right for you. On Sirio engines, I have owned a few and I love them. Almost any Italian engine will do you right though. Sirio's are very precise and very (and in my case too) fast.

5 port is legal too it said it on tower under the tech notes. is it a pull starter engine tower hobbies dosent say.

I run the Sirio .12 EVO 2 3-Port ABC Threaded Shaft (Model # S12TRPAF). I have her dropped into my NTC3. She is a very nasty engine and pushes my car around at insane speeds. Out of all the things I have done to my car, buying that engine was the best hop-up I did to it. I would definitely recommend her to anyone.

As far as which one to get, here is how they break down. You basically have 3 choices for the EVO 2, one 3-port version & two 5-port versions. The 3-port is race legal and the 5-port is in the outlaw class. Here is a list:

---Sirio EVO 2 3-Port: S12TRPAF - (1.52hp / 39K RPM) - Race legal (threaded shaft)
---Sirio EVO 2 5-Port: S12TUPAF - (1.60hp / 40K RPM) - Outlaw class (threaded)
---Sirio EVO 2 5-Port: S12TUP - (1.60hp / 40K RPM) - Outlaw class (SG shaft)

Since you don't plan on entering any races, I would recommend the S12TUP. The main benefit w/ this engine is that it has the SG shaft. This makes it easy to mount your flywheel and stuff to the shaft.

With the threaded shafts, you have to measure, cut the shaft, and install a pilot nut. This can be tricky b/c if you cut too much off the threaded shaft, the pilot nut won't fit properly. Thus, you just ruined your engine and will have to buy a new crankshaft for it.

So for the ease of installment, and it's specs I would go w/ the SG 5-Port version (S12TUP). You definitely won't be disappointed w/ her.

BTW, none of them are pull-start versions, so you will need a starter box. The compression on my engine is so tight that I have to use a heavy duty starter box w/ the 12V high torque engine to start it. The box's that have those 750 or twin 550 engines, just don't give you enough power to crank her up.

dam its a non ps you think $225 will be enough to get the engine, a starter box, starter box battery, and a decent charger? i might just stick to my XTM .18 in that rs4 then.

He is SO right about Sirio compression, it's wicked tight! I smoked a few starter boxes with mine.

Check Tower Hobbies

The sirio evo2 outlaw (sg shaft) is going for $189
The sirio evo2 3port race legal (threaded) is $199
Don't know why they don't have an SG shaft. My lhs has it for $190.

I plan on getting the 3 port for my NTC3 for Christmas. With a Dynamite 12V starter box. I can't wait.

$225 will be cutting it pretty close. You can scoop up the engine for $190 - $15 Coupon + $8 ship on Tower. That leaves you w/ $42 to find a starter box, battery, and charger. You can find a used starter box on ebay for about that price. If you shop around, you will eventually find one w/ a battery and charger for about that price. Just make sure it has the 12V High Torque motor in it.

Or you might want to consider a lower priced engine w/ the same specs. I actually came close to getting one of the new Infinity/RDLogic engines. The specs are identical to the Sirio but the price is a little cheaper. I saw one on ebay for $125 + $8 ship.

So that would leave you w/ $92 to spend on the remainder parts.

Anyway, it's just an idea to ponder around in your head.
