Things to WATCH OUT with the BAJA
Hi my Name is Jon. My friend (Brad) has just brought the new HPI Baja from a Hobby Store in Melbourne Australia. This is a "GREAT CAR". BUY ONE!!!!
Forget the Nitros!!! You'll NEVER look back.
But, as with most things, there are a few things to watch out with the BAJA.
They arent bad and are easy to fix.
1: On top of the roll cage. The cover plate (plastic) that covers the spark plug can sometimes snap the sparkplug top off if in a heavy roll over - crash. Solution - Cut a circle in the plastc cover so the rollcage dosent crush the tip of the plug.
2: The cover for the spur gears. The cover can get loose especially at the back. If anything gets in there well - goodnite Spur Gear. Carry extras!!!
Solution - Cable ties - Strap case at the front and back.
3: Metal Spur Gear Screw - Part No 94506 Page 62 of 72 of the Manual.
This screw can sometimes snap off at the head. Dont panic!
Solution - It can be fixed by removing the bell housing Part No 86490 and placing the broken screw in a vice. Turn to remove. Keep extra screws!! It happened to me on our first day driving.
4: Keep a heap of extra split pins - all sizes. You'll need them. The come of and hard to find in the dirt.
5: Keep a heap of "C Clips" - all sizes. Check you manual. Try to get a "C Clip" pliers.
6: Cable ties - all sizes.
Thats it for now - Will let you know more later - Happy Racing BAJA ROCKS
