This is a story about how the simplest mistakes can ruin a whole bashing weekend in about 20 seconds, first of all let me start by saying that this is not a feel sorry for me thread! as always I will try and keep my sense of humor here but I hope that some new members can read this and realize just how challenging this hobby can be when it comes to the smallest details! details that we all learn sooner or later, for me I really wish this was sooner!
I live on the gulf coast of Florida(near Tampa), I have a nephew that lives on the East coast(FT Laud)I decided to do some quality bashing time with him and went down for this past weekend. As some of you know I have a new GS Storm(arr) It is my first semi-build so I have a bit of pride attached to it! knowing all week I was going down there I spent lots of prep time dialing this car in,new fail safe, new hump pack.check this, check that! double check that! you now the drill!! while driving down alligator alley and on to the sawgrass highway I see the panthers stadium, right behind the stadium was what apeared to be the total poop of all buggy bashing spots that I have ever seen, I mean totally wide open areas, almost looked like a subdivision sized area with no houses, lots of high piled hills and smaller jumps all over the place,I almost pulled the car over right on the highway just to jump the fence with buggy and trans in hand, I really couldnt wait but I had to! after spending all of saturday evening and into the night breaking in my nephews new os21rg for his savageI we finally get to this spot sunday morning and I am so ready to finally see what the storm could do, I pull it out of the truck and drop the tailgate, drop my bash box and grabbed the fuel bottle and within a matter of seconds had the storm singing like the little nitro bitch that she is! Man I was having the most fun I have had in a really long time, my nephew was watching me as he got his savage together, yelling at me, wait damnit! I gotta get my truck runnin!! and this my friends is where it all went wrong! I took a small jump, mabye about a 1foot high mound of dirt, no big deal right, what I didnt see was that my radio box cover had popped off some how, after this little jump I decided to do a wot run so I turned out of a small loop and gunned it! I see this little blue thing fly out of my car(hump pack)
and off she went at WOT straight towards the only fricking standing water in this whole wide area, I mean the water was a good 300 yards away from us and only about a 30 foot wide puddle about 8 inches deep. some of you know the feeling that came over me and some of you are yet to experience it! all I could do was watch as my perfect little car was headed straight for its h2o burial, I drop my trans and started walking towards the water , I didnt even take off my brand new shoes, i just walked in this mercky gray poop water and grabbed it, it was completley submerged, all I could see was the very top fin of the head, I walked it back to the truck and tried to figure out how in the ^&(*)& this could have happend, I mean , I covered all the bases, why the hell would the box cover just pop off?WELL!!( mcvickj are you reading this?)
Instead of using the clip that came with the reciver box I accidentlly grabbed a very weak clip from my ntc3 parts container and used it instead, what a freakin dumb ass mistake that was, I was kicking myself in the ass all day! I sat and smoked my backwoods cigars and watched my nephew bash his savage, every once in a while I would grab my ankles and tell him to kick me in the ass real hard, I have never been so pissed at myself my whole life! when I got home and realized that this simple mistake fried the reciver and servos(yes the servos too, they smoked when I tried to power them up today) I decided to put the storm away for a few days, but today I realized that hey! it had to be funny in some way!, the only name I could think of for myself was THE STORM CHASER!
I'm sure that worse things have happend to alot of you! but to me this really was a bad day! I wil be rebuilding the reciver and servos this weekend and hope to be up and running by mid week.
I am not offering any words of advice here, I know what i did wrong and I know what not to do next time! so its on to the addiction called nitro RC and on to the next headache! I will say thanks for taking the time to read this, I needed to get this off my chest! and I know, Its all part of the hobbie!!!
