Well this is the first picture of my area where I will be building a track. It's a great workout and my wife doesn't care one bit. I just started and I'm going to work on it all week. I took off Friday so my friend and I are going nuts with the chain saws. I want to clear out about 70' by 100'. It will probably take until mid July but it's worth it in the end. About 200 feet from my back door and I can race my Savage and my new buggy. I figure if I set it up right, I can get about 400' to 600' feet of track (four trucks wide)and if that's not enough I will go 70' by 150'. I will have more pictures as the track progresses. What do you guys think? Any thoughts of a track design would be helpful too. Thanks

Scott.

Oops I have alot going on tonight. Here's the pic and what I need is some ideas for a design (layout)?

That looks like my neighborhood! Leydecker and East & West area.

anyhow, I say make the lanes as wide as you can. It will help you transition well around the track. Especially with buggies and MT's!!! Very important you have the lane width!

I'm out in East Aurora. Alot of area to run and I will be flying at my old High School this year if I get the time for my first flight. Anyway, about how wide should the lanes be? I'm using drain tubing in the corners for my walls and painting them a bright color so when I'm up in my booth I can see what's going on.

Hey, you can use pieces of the downed trees for the track borders. You also might think about using them as obstacles as well, say a washboard type hazard on the track. You could also include them in helping build jumps so you have less earth to move.

That's a good idea EP, about using the logs for your course. Here are a couple of sample track designs courtesy of RC Car Action. You can brainstorm and come up w/ your own design.

Yep EP you read my mind on the washboard obstacle, I'm going to test the size of the logs I want to use. I'm working on it tomorrow and Thursday a little. Then Friday is the day when my friend and I will be working on it all day. I'm hoping for mid July to be done. I am most likely going to use the wood for the track perimeter like you said EP. Digital Liquid that is some great info especially the track config. I just need to get through stage 1 and that's clearing the area. By the way the picture makes it look worse than it is. Thanks for the info and keep it coming!!!

I helped build a track in the woods once, and we used dead trees fo borders. They worked ok, but they have to be good size for a mt, and the aren't as forgiving as corigated pipe once thy get that big. The only real problem was the misquetos. It didn't seem to matter if you had bug spray, or not, those little son-of-a-&!^(#%$ were thirsty after about 6 pm or so. Good luck! Look like a good spot.

hyp you should have rubbed nitro on your self :jk:
scott good luck with your track.keep us updated with pics. iam putting in a track in my back yard this summer..

YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
I eat nitro on my cherrios!
AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Hey Hype, I think I have the bug problem figured out. I used Ortho and water mix and I put it in my pressure tank and walk around and spray about a day before my outdoor parties and it worked awesome. No bugs at all. I'm hoping it will do the same in that area. We will see on Friday when we are out there.

THe track I was speaking of is 1 to 1 1/2 hours north of me at some friends property that we go camping at once or twice a year, so I'll keep that in mind. It probably would only need it on the hill that we use as the stand and hill climb since the track is in a valley. It really isn't much to look at. It's basically an oval with an opening so it can be a figure eight that also serves as a place to get a run for the hill. We dug out 4 or 5 woopdiedo's(no idea how to spell that,) and used the dirt fot one set of doubles. Maybe I'll have a digital camera before we go there this year. Definatly post pics of the result.

Good ideas, those track layouts look damn good. You have your work cut out for you, but it should turn out real nice... keep us updated and take many pic's!

I'm putting drainage in my lawn the first of July, so I figure I will have some dirt from that and my wife keeps digging up the lawn and leaving piles of dirt on the side of our property. And last night I sketched up a design and when I finalize the measurements this weekend I will digitize the drawing and show my design. I have this great picture in my head of how it will look but you know how that goes, what my vision is and what actually happens are two different results. I'm dedicating as much time as I can to get this finished by mid July. We will see.

Scott.

Everything sounds good. You definitely have some determination & willpower to get it finished on a timely schedule. I'm sure you will be able to transform your idea into a nice track. Too bad you're too far away b/c I would offer to help out. Keep us posted.
