The best way (if any) to remove pre-glued tyres????

Is there a safe way to remove pre-glued tyres without chipping the rims or damaging the tyres in any way?

The reson I ask is that my cheap-ass buggy came with pre-glued tyres but there are no foam inserts or anything in them.
I'm completely new to RC so feel free to tell me that the tyres are meant to be THAT soft. Whats the deal? Are they meant to be like that and if not can I remove them so I can get some foam in there?

By the way, i did do a few searches but found nothing.

Yes, there is a CA remover you can use. It's the same thing you will use when the tires need to be replaced and you can cut/de-glue them to get them off.

They should have foam inserts but it's not critical. I'd just let them wear out then replace them. My cheap Inferno RTR came the same way.

I boiled my t-maxx rims for about 15 min each.After that they popped off with no damage to the rims or tires.

I do it the same way marc said but watch out because the tires will be dripping boiling water. Dont really know if it qualifies as safe but it gets the job done.

I think I might give the boiling water trick a try. Sounds like it should work. Oh by the way sbb4us, When I said 'safe' I was refering to damaging the wheels. As long as my rims are ok, who cares if I get scalded LOL

BTW you are using plastic rims arnt u? I dont wanna boil my wheels and have the rims turn into some sort of abstract art.

Try running without foams. I actually prefer running without foams in my buggies.

Does the buggy not feal sluugish and icky when it comes to steering? I can only think of turning and the tires stretching and what not and not to mention foams help my landing.

think of it kinda like one of those r/c's from the shack the trucks dont have foams. the foam is there to help keep the tires shape but the tires can do fine on their own or at least that how it is on the model that i turned my old r/c into when i got my nitro

I don't know if anyone else has tried using CA remover (debonder), but it's not even worth attempting in my opinion. You're supposed to let the debonder soak in for A LONG TIME, and then it just kind of will break apart. Well, it didn't do jack squat for me and I let it soak in PLENTY.
Boiling worked a little bit, but not much for me.
What I finally did was peel the wheel back as far as I could and use the trusty old Xacto knife and cut the tire off, and then glue it to another wheel. I'm still running the tires on my GT now!

Boiling worked for me. I boiled 'em for about 15 miutes, popped 'em out, and promply dropped it like a rock I thought "sheeit I need gloves!" The tires didn't come off. I boiled em for nother 20 minutes or so, and they came off nice and easy with a little push/pull action. Gluck, and let em boil for a bit.

Well, It deffinately looks like boiling is the way to go on this one.
Theres no way I'm going to even waste my time looking for CA remover. I'm not saying it doesn't work but I have a hard time just trying to buy fuel were I live. I'm not gonna waste a few hours travelling to find some debonder just to find that it dont work.

So........Wish me luck.

You can soak them in Acetone for 24 hours and they will come off with no problem. This is the way I do it.

doesn't the acetone destroy the rubber ? I would think it would be to harsh to let soak in something like that...

I boiled plastic wheels.And they came out all messed up.But I did some HPI wheels and they did fine.So maybe it is the kind of plastic.

About the only thing you really need to do is let the foam dry out. I haven't had it mess up the plastic wheels. I've heard that it might take the finish off of chrome wheels. THe rubber on the tires comes out fine.

The HPI wheels are nylon (maybe not all, but at least the ones I have) and that's probably why they can stand the boiling and some cheap plastics can't.

I've boiled my stock maxx rims 3 times. I couldn't make up my mind with the tires.

Boiling works well. It may not necessarily make the tire fall off the rim, but it definatly makes it easier to get them apart without destroying either the rim or the tire.

Also, by boiling the plastic, it makes it more flexible and resist breakage.
