Hey Guys....
Been growing the beard out for a few months and it is starting to take on a life of its own. The lady that cuts my hair trims it up every 3 weeks for me, but I handle the day to day trimming and grooming. I am looking for a place to buy beard oil and I found the Art of Shaving store. I will be doing some Xmas shopping this weekend and figured I would stop in. The problem is that I have never used beard oil and is it something you guys with bushy beards use on a regular basis?

Tom

This is what I use. Not an oil though.

I have a medium length beard...average billy mays type beard. I dont use anything in it, just comb it daily, but I'm also a pretty greasy dude so no need to add to natural product.

By the way, as a guy with massive amounts of fast growing facial hair, I've found the best way to shave (for non beard areas) is dryshaving with a decent razor just after showering. No mess, no pain, quick and easy, close shave. Just dont try it with a junk razor.

@godale03, if you have an Art of Shaving store near you just go in and ask for some of their recommendations. I don't grow a beard but use some of their products for shaving as I use a double edge razor to shave with. Art of Shaving makes some good stuff.

Thanks for the info guys!
Slowngreen..... does the beard balm go in easy?

Thanks for the advise Woodie... I will be there this weekend. I will give them a look see.

Tom

The balm goes in easy but the bad thing is its really greasy.

Been wanting to try this for a while now. But, I didn't want to drop a ton of money only to decide it wasn't for me. This shavette got great reviews on Amazon, and it's dirt cheap. I keep a beard during the winter, but I did all my trim work with it tonight. First time ever with a straight. I didn't bleed out, I'm still typing this, and it's an EXCELLENT shave that will only get better with practice. Additionally, I feel like I enjoyed it more. I generally just hate shaving, even with a nice DE setup. But this make you focus so much on what you're doing, you kind of just have to tune out that bad day at work, etc. Got a little razor burn, but I get that no matter what. I did get two small nicks trimming around my bottom lip at the corners of my mouth (hard to stretch that out flat and taut), but nothing major. For anyone on the fence about trying a straight razor, I highly recommend it!

Just after, no blood! :hehe:

Not sure if Personna makes a straight razor blade, but I've been using their double edge blades for the last year and have been very happy with them.

One of the smoothest cuts I've had.

If they do make them, I can't find them online anywhere. It seems there are a lot of different variations for shavette blades out there as well.

There's something really, really scary about a straight razor that close to my jugular, even if it was in my own hands.

I can understand that. But, I'm much, much more likely to die any number of other ways in a given day. And it's just something I've always wanted to try. But I definitely don't trust anyone else to do it.

So I finally upgraded my old brush and bowl, it was long overdue. Both are from Vikings Blade. The brush has a great weight and will stay submerged while soaking. Great backbone, feel, and excellent lather production. The bowl is, well, a bowl. :hehe: But it's textured slightly which helps holding onto it with wet/soapy hands. I'd never go back to a smooth bowl now after having this one.

Where did you buy the brush at? I'm about due for a new one myself.
