So, browsing the FB marketplace I saw someone selling a TT-01. It needs new drive gears, I guess they are completely stripped. Not that I can afford another RC, but I can say it isn't tempting. Although, I need to drive the ones I currently own more šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

There are people that only buy Tamiya's, then there's the rest of us who avoid them at all costs šŸ˜†

That sums it up nicely. It looks cool, BUT I think I'll stick with my trucks :). After all, I'm going have one decked out SCX24 sofa climber soon šŸ˜†

Is this one that you want or just because the price is good?
Nothing wrong with buying right! I just feel like I need to love them for me to spend time and money on them. I spend a fair amount of time building and have no shortage of projects.šŸ˜Ž

I would love to grab the old 80's kits. Grasshopper, Frog, Hornet, etc. But other than that, most of the TT line are just motorized toys.

I've never had a road RC. Always had trucks and such. I think the idea of the road cars could be fun, but I also know they can go through tires like crazy (of course depends on how much you drive it).
I have no shortage of project myself. The list gets longer before I can cross stuff off, lol.

I'm also an offroad person. šŸ‘ I have a Tamiya F01 (?) Car that I never drove. I think I put a LeMns motor and a small esc in it, ran it long enough to see i needed WAY more flat open space to enjoy it. Had it for years but no part so I put it on a shelf.
Now I'm finally buying a few of my favorite road cars from years ago. Still no place to run but I have a big gas leafblower. 🤣
Theres lots of big parking lots around. I haven't tried running in any yet though. I think I could find one or 2 though.
I also bought an RC10lc thats only been run indoors carpet so its super clean. It won't get run on asphalt.
I hope to get it running so i can get it to a track thats about 1 hr away. They are supposed to have a nice indoor track too.
I want to race so much but all the tracks are far from home.
I thought a nice tennis or basketball court might be nice too.šŸ¤”
Do you have any good places or ideas to run an on road car?

Like you to mentioned, I think finding a place to drive it would also be a problem. It would be difficult to plan to take the car somewhere to enjoy it.
That's why I like the off road RCs I can drive it right outside my house.

The only other thing on my neverending project list is to be able to mount my TRX4 to my gravel bike so I can bike to the hills nearby and then go RCing šŸ˜„

I love that idea!
I have similar dreams with travelling to remote places in Maine for RC fun in my 4x4. ( Hopefully that will be wrapped up by summer.)

I think it should be an easy mod to my bike rack. I should just order the parts šŸ¤”. Not sure what's cooler than cruising on your bike with a big RC car...and maybe my fishing rod? Lol. A gal can dream.

Sounds like a perfect day at the beach! šŸ‘šŸ˜Ž

And we know who that group is šŸ™ƒšŸ¤šŸ¤£šŸ« šŸ¤¦

The only Tamiya I see worth buying in my eyes is a TRF racing kit but I don't have 1200 bucks sitting in my pocket let alone 50 bucks soooo I'll leave it at that lol. (Me personally I'm not into the vintage Tamiya kits)

For OP:
If you have a local club or track that races TT01 euro truck or tt02 spec / stock classes, sure go right ahead but if not I see 0 reason to get it while you can get a much better kyosho Fazer or Traxxas 4tec for hooning around in the street or parking lot.

Had a TT02 myself which is a updated version of the 01 right? Was excited to get into some on road racing but when building it and my first drive I realized it was the worst "hobby grade" they say, car I drove. Uncontrollable, tried all the things I had to make it drive straight. Not to mention my local onroad track only really does a tt02 class for the TCS yearly race so it didn't meant much to me. Wouldn't be able to keep up with the fast local guys running high end kits.

Heard rumors that the TT01 might be better out of the box than a TT02 🤷. IMHO, if I get a car it should drive straight out of the box. I built it all per the manual. Not to mention Tamiya hop ups are unnecessarily too expensive.

That's just for driving or racing. If you want to build a nice looking shelf or display car, I totally support it as the TT series has lots of aftermarket support and you won't be wrenching on it alot. Almost made mine into a shelf car but someone wanted it which that extra 20 bucks I got back i spent on a new front pair of race buggy tires šŸ˜….

That's just my opinion on the TT series which always turns into a rant but you can use it for your own research. I still support the guys that like and live Tamiya and racing them. I always still watch videos on them racing and I'm like, how in the world did they get those things to drive straight and consistent when using the stock steering rack system and no upgrades lol.

Sounds like you made the right decision :)
I'm going to stick with tricking out my TRX4, love that rig.

Does it come with bike mounts??? šŸ˜Ž
A TRX4 does seem better suited for rough running.
Better get working on the price tag!!! šŸ‘
Bike mounts, now that would be100% ideal, haha. The TRX4m would be a good buddy to my brand new FMS FCX18. Lol

Ooooohhh!!! Then you'll need dual carriers! How about a pedal power charging system too??? šŸ˜ŽšŸ‘

I bought a TT02D from Marketplace once for 50 bones…got suckered into it because of the price. Showed up to pick it up and the dude threw in a big 3S lipo that never would have fit in the car but was worth the asking price alone lol.

It was a kit, assembled about 70% of the way before the dude gave up. I wish he gave up sooner because 100% of what he built was jacked up in one way or another. I fixed it, finished it, and took it to the tennis courts for a drift sesh. Broke it. Sold it. Every other Tamiya vehicle I’ve owned in adulthood had a similar lifespan.

The moral of the story: hard pass!
