T-Maxx upgrades

Well I have decided to ditch my plans to buy a Twin Titan Ofna if favor of upgrading my 2.5 Maxx.

I am in the process of getting the MIP CVD's all around including the center shafts. I will also be putting RPM arms and knuckles on at the same time as well as Lunsford titanium hinge pins.

Is there anything I should be doing at the same time with this type of upgrade?

Motor, diffs, clutch and bulkheads are still stock.

I have already installed the ProLine steering kit, 200oz steering servo and titanium rods since I bent one of the stock ones.

well, if i was u i would but a different engine in it. something like the Sirio .18, it is an exact replacement for the 2.5 great engine works like a charm

also maybe go and get some aluminum bulkheads. i myself like the GA bulks.

Yeah, I thought about replacing the engine but it seems a shame since the 2.5 only has like a half a gallon or so run throught it. I am also trying to get more info on the Picco .21 drop in, but have been unable to get a release date.

If I do replace the engine, I assume I should replace the clutch, any thoughts on what type/manuf?

At minumum, i would replace the front bulkheads with some aluminum ones. Integy.com has a decent set for $29. Also, it would be adventagous of you to replace the a-arms with RPM's. I have this set up and it can take a hell of a beating. I have aluminum bulks all around and RPM all around. Also, have aluminum bulk braces (not sure how much they help). And aluminum diff cases. This was more for gear and bearing life than structural integrity though. I have this on a 21 conversion that i really beat the tar out of. I ran yesterday for 4 hours solid. I shut it off once to take a leak. I was getting 10-15 feet high and 20-30 distance jumps (not all perfect landings) and i walked away with a functioning truck.

RRP makes:
Double slipper with interchangable spur gears.
Disk brake (ti)

MIP makes a nice set of replacement clutch shoes.

Aluminum chassis braces will help reduce some of the flex and add more durability but they will add a lot of wieght unless you can purchase a very lightwieght set.

Pick up a set of aluminum bulkheads and do the Traxxas forward only conversion. The FOC is the biggest bang for you buck powerwise.

Your diffs should be fine with the stock 2.5 or even the Sirio 18. If you do upgrade to a 21 you will need to replace them with something other than stock.

Unless you are going to do a full 21 conversion then stay with the 2.5 or make the move up to the Sirio 18. Just watch out for the added wieght with all of the hop ups. You can dump the easy start and replace it with the pull start or maybe someone has figured out the roto start. Both will save on lbs.

As stretchM said, the RRP Double slipper is the way to go when running a BigBlock. I recommend the GA Al. clutchshoe/flywheel combo... Good price & great products...

Appreciate the input. I am going to go with alum. bulkheads and chassis braces for sure. I am also going to get the Sirio 18 and replace the clutch/brake when I do the engine swap. After that I am going to employ the break it then replace it strategy.

You should also look at a set of RPM skid wear plates. They not only protect and beef up your skids, theny also tie the chassis braces together making the chassis even more less likly to flex. I'm a big fan of RPM parts and i would definently suggest them to anyone who likes to bash AND Race especially the a-arms like Olds97_lss suggested.

If you really want the performance buy the head shim kit for the 18, use one of the thin out of the 3 pack then increase the nitro content to 30%.

Already have the RPM skids. The RPM A-Arms and steering blocks will be installed as soon as my CVD's get here.

Should I also be replacing the stock pivot balls? If so, any reccomendations?

I think the stock balls are ok just upgrade to the RPM axle carriers. Huge bearings and much stronger than stock. A nice compliment to the RPM A-arms. Be sure tocheck out the GARC aluminum bulks and clutch shoes. Both are awesome.

Well I just bought the Sirio 18 with the big bore pipe as well as the GA Assembley 3 shoe clutch. Should all be here in a week.

All the RPM stuff has arrived and the MIP CVD's will be here on Monday.

I have also decided to get the RC Solutions Al Bulkheads and Chassis Braces. I am probably going to pick up the roll cage as well because it looks badass.

It won't be long now untill I begin my major upgrades to my Maxx. I do not want to know how much I will have put into this ride.

If you can do without reverse the forward-only conversion is another good mod. It lightens up the truck, your RPMs will spool faster and you lose that chatter that Maxxes always do when starting from a standstill.

Already replaced the shocks with the big bores. I just got a set of Trinity Heavy Blue Springs to put on. I should have gotten threaded shocks.

Just picked up the RRP brake kit.

I am also going to the the RRP double slipper 72T steel spur kit as well since the cost is minimal compared to the rest of the stuff I am doing.

Can't wait to get started.

I am going to sell off all the stock parts including the 2.5 to help cover the costs of the upgrades.
