:i am looking to get new servos but know nothing about them, I'm unsure if i want after market ones at the moment but i am thinking of the waterproof ones that traxxas do, will they be suitable for my maxx, i am new to rc and and want to gradually feel the difference in my hop ups so i know what i like when i get a decent set up, i dont race my maxx all I'm doing just now is learning how to have fun with it so i dont see the need for quality servos at the moment although i am addicted to spending loads of money on my maxx project, if i dont spend my money the wife usually does lol

I would only get waterproof servos if you think you'll be running in some snow or the occasional puddle. It's not a very smart thing to do anyway unless you blow your rig off with compressed air afterwords. Even then you could have problems with the reciever or bearings etc. I would look at hitec or futaba and get a nice metal gear servo with a ball bearing output shaft. Hitec has the 645 mg futaba has the s3305. Both have roughly 120 oz.in and are really nice for about 35 bucks. Don't go overboard on the throttle servo you only want about 70-80 oz/in and that's all. That way the failsafe spring can still do it's job.
I just got a JR racing servo Z650M high torq metal gear w/a reedy 6 volt humper I'm beating my self over the head and wondering if I got enough servo? the specs say 142 oz. of torq @ 6 volts . I am going from stock to this jr. So do I have enough servo? should I go ahead and open the the package need your guys imput.
I always looked at how fast the servo would go a full travel (lock right to left) while the truck is standing still...if you don't get a full travel then you don't have enough servo...even if it finishes the ends of travel at a slower speed you are O.K. but don't expect that servo to handle too much abuse....but as a rule of thumb I use 150in/oz as the bottom range for an MT....should have around a .15 sec transit as well....
I pretty much only run the hitec 985MG. Fast, strong and water resistant. Great servo for $70.
When new, I still pull them apart and put a light coat of RTV on all the o-ring seals so I know they are well seated and sealed. I also put a bit around the input wire boot.
Run in snow, water, mud and no issues. I run them as my t/b servos on my savage and aftershock. May be running two in a slayer I have coming in the mail. One for steering, the other for t/b.
