I have a original tmaxx that i have been upgrading over the last year. I upgraded to a 3.3 not that long ago so i wont be swapping out the motor any time soon but i am looking around right now anyways. The two motors i am looking at are the Picco .26 MAX JLR RED-DOT and the O.S. FS-26S-C Version II. The Picco should just bolt in from what i have read and the O.S. needs to have a bigger chassis. I would prefer the O.S. because it is four stroke but I'm planning on getting the vantege racing carbon fiber chassis and i already did the MIP drive line swap so i need a motor that can fit the original size T-Maxx. Now before any one gets going about 4-strokes sucking please go ride one first. My Yamaha Nytro RTX has one that pulls like no other which is why that O.S. engine interests me. I want better grunt from My Maxx not speed. 30 to 50 is enough so if any one has an idea please post. One last thing, i run a integy quad tip exhaust so the engine has to have rear exhaust access.

The JL Red Dot is a down right gnasty S.O.B.! It's a stump puller, axle twisting, diff shredding, wheely ripping little beast! You won't be disappointed with it.

The Red dot looks sweet but what can it use a traxxas engine mount and can it pull a stump better than that 4-stroke O.S.

Ha! Couldn't tell ya about the stump pulling comparison!

The Picco will not fit the Traxxas mount. However, Ofna makes one for about $16 and I believe New Era also makes one.

are there many after market engine mounts. i want the hot racing one for my 3.3 but if i end up swapping motors it would be a waste. My main issue is i want my truck to look good and not have more than 5 people say they have the same set up.

I have the .26 Picco and run a little less gear than most(44/18) and 7" tall tires, it still ulls pretty hard and runs well. With more gear, I can't imagine the acceleration.

nothing but good news from the picco .26 people but i would like to see what other engines are bolt in capable but offer 2.5 hp and up. the .26 red dot seems like the one to get so far but i really would like something four stroke if there are any that fit a original length tmaxx.

has anyone had experience with the RB motors like the 528?

the red dot doesn't have 2.5 hp. the most is like 2.1 hp. but i think thats on the picco .28 not the .26 max. the rb is good its got alot of power and racers use it.

i wish i could find a dyno test for the .26 red dot but i can't find one. they list it as 2.7 HP so my guess its around 2.4 HP. Though it could produce its listed HP if i got the right percentage fuel and the right amount of pressure in the tank. if you find a dyno for the red dot or RB 528 please post it.

rbmods did a test on the standard .26 maxx with two different pipes on 30% fuel. the dyno only showed around 1.45 hp for each setup. so unless ofna have super nitro fuel and some uber pipe how can they claim 2.7 hp. Although not all dyno's use the same formulas. another factor could be that ab mods tests at the wheel while ofna tests at the crank. if any one has any info on this please let us know.

I'm pretty sure that anything bigger then the picco would really shred drivetrain parts. But with aluminum tranny and diff housings, robinson gears and a reasonable trigger finger, you'd be alright. Obviously steel driveshafts as well.

well do i really need a aluminum transmission housing. i know that in some cases the plastic can bend but the transmission parts just spin and don't really send any torque to the case unless something goes terribly wrong. and i did figure on the diff internals and i will change the case because mine are the ancient ones with only two screws holding them together but does the diff case also have to be aluminum. also if you got any pictures of a plastic case that has been shredded by a larger motor please post them.

it will put a little more stress on it but unless i get a bad bearing or something it should send most of the power out to the drive shafts. and i know that the 2.5 transmission does not have the meshing of the revo but i have seen a lot of people drop big blocks on to revo's with little modification.

have you ran into anything about the Robinson racing slipper clutch. the only review i could get said it was unbalanced but once they got over that it was sweet. i also was going to get the traxxas revo slipper upgrade except there are only a handful of gears that fit it.

Can't help ya there. My 2.5 is gettin' to be on it's last leg, so I run the old slipper pretty loose. Close to half turn out. The only way it would break a gear is if I creamed something. The new style slipper has a lot greater fine tuning ability.
