T-maxx...are you happy with it?

I've gone through this a hundred times in this forum. The 2.5 is a reliable engine IF YOU CHANGE THE HEAD. The stock head that it comes with is absolutely the pits. If it can't maintain a consistant temp, you can't maintain the tune. There's not much difference between the 2.5 and the Revo 2.5R, but the Revo just runs and runs, without any tuning issues. Ever wonder if that has anything to do with Traxxas putting a CNC head on it?

It only is a pain to tune if it doesn't have an aftermarket head. Same with the overheating. The stock head just doesn't cut it. The ACNCM head makes the engine way more forgiving in the tuning department and stops overheating. Should be on your top 5 list.

I did try an after market head and still had problems. But my buddys tmaxx runs so freaking good like no other MT out there and its basically stock, that pissed me off even more, mine was a lemon!!!

They are the same. Either your tuning is not right, or you are dealing with an air leak somewhere.
This is especially true if you both run the same fuel and glo plugs.

Keep in mind this guy spent a few dollars, but I love my T-Maxx and have made few upgrades to it. I've heard the savage can take a beating better, but I'm just getting into bashing my maxx around now, and it's taking quite the beating too - 8 ft drops onto the body, 10 ft drops into snow, etc.

Well I just got my T-maxx yesterday afternoon. They sent me green one...yuck! But don't matter, cuz I have another body anyway. Well as soon as I got it I installed the aluminum front/rear/center skid plate, failsafe, and roll cage. I have throttle return springs and a fuel filter to be installed by the end of the week, so I don't plan on breaking it in until friday afternoon. Does anyone else have ideas on semi-cheap peformance upgrades I can do before breaking it in?????

It Sounds as if you have the cash for this stuff. Personally I just drove mine until it broke, When it broke, I upgraded that specific part with a stronger part. You REALLY Need a Bigger cooling head. IMO, This is a must.

Crazy Nut Racing NOTICE: The "If you break it, We'll replace it"

2 Cool R/c This looks Good too.

2 Cool R/c Scroll to, Dual Rate Maxx series Shock Springs.

2 Cool R/c Great racing Chassis.

Well There you go, I did some googling for yah and Thats what I would recommend later on.

Thanks. Yeah a few people already recommended changing the cooling head which I probably will do next. So the stock cooling head is held on by screws right? So basically I just need to remove the screws, pull of the stock head, put on the new head, and scew it on right?

Remember to take the shims off the old head and reinstall it on the new one! Yes, there are 5 screws that you take out and the head just comes off.

Baldie- That is correct, Just 5 Screws. You will have a much better engine in relabilty with a new larger cooling head. But, Do research. Hardcore racing makes a good one, And the one I gave you up there in the link. IMO.

My friend has a GH head, and it works. I personally like the ACNCM head, but anything is better than stock!
