I know i'm a savage kid but i have seen the t maxx 3.3 run and it will definatly not run as fast as a t maxx with a .21 in it. The t maxx 3.3 is only a .17 not a .20. The 3.3 will definatly beat the .21 off the line but a little later, oh say 1.9 sec later the .21 will be smoking your butt!

.17? What brought you to that conclusion?

3.3cc = .20ci
3.3cc != .17ci
Yeah--I'm thinkin the whole .17 is up in smoke--I am almost positive it isa .20:breakdown

Sorry you guys, did my math wrong. i hit the wrong button on the calc. But still i know a t maxx with a 21 in it will win cuz its a bigger motor. Not much bigger, but big enough to make it faster than the 3.3.

Plus i was thinking of getting a 21 for my savage 25 cuz it crankes out 2.9 hp instead of 2.5. This proving that a 21 can be faster than a .25 or even a .28!

well i guess we will find out in a week.

I want to witness as a fellow 3.3 owner I think it would be great if you smoked him!!
GO BIG PHIL!!
or is that GO BIG phil!! lol

Depends on the big block we are talking about. The 2.5 had some nice power, and since the 3.3 is bigger, and has more power, it should be able to take down a .21 with ease. jmo

You have to look at some and most of the 21's out there. They can easily get up to 2.9hp. Saw in a magazine in 02. i know a 3.3 doesn't have 2.9hp!

well if the .21 put out nearly 3 hp then i am going to get smoked, because according to this thread- https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39864 the 3.3 only put out almost a horsepower?

that is 2.9 hp mfg spec, not dyno hp, some do put out a lot of hp out but unless your brother spent 400 it will probably be a close race as long as you can out drive him, it won't matter.

Ditto

Well have you two raced yet? Just wondering.

Anyhow PHil, I'll be in Dallas this weekend but want have my truck with me...I'm not sure if my wife would like that lol. I will however like to find a Hobby shop or two to check out if you or anyone knows of one? It would be cool if I could find one who sold a RB 323 ;) I just installed my OS.18TM and even though it seems more powerful than my old 2.5r, I think I may need more power lol. Or atleast a tuned pipe etc ;)

I started with a 2.5 then moved up to a 3.3 and am now running a Omega Picco .21 Tmaxx drop in.The 2.5 is a pretty good engine but just did'nt have the power I wanted.When my LHS got the 3.3s in me and a good buddy of mine both purchased one.During break in my maxx got stuck in WOT (due to a linkage problem) and ran across a field and into a fence.Well when it hit the fence it flipped over and by the time I was able to turn it off it had been running at WOT for a while.The engine seemed to be ok so I finished the break in.Later on that week my buddy and I had a race (side by side drag one block long) and he beat me bad.This was probably because his maxx is much lighter than mine.His maxx has the forward only kit and aluminum bulk heads with pullstart.My maxx has reverse,steel geared stearing servo,aluminum 40series rims with bowties,Aluminum Integy shocks,alumin shock towers,all ball bearings,EZ start system,aluminum front and center skid plates,aluminum bumpers,and a wheelie bar.I did'nt expect to win we were just bashing around having fun.A few days later I was running my maxx and it just shut off and I could not get the piston unstuck.Later on that night I took the motor apart and found that the piston rod had been thrown and the part inside the crank case where the piston rotates was chipped and there were metal fragments inside the motor.This could have been due to the WOT mishap during break in I dont know.The next day I went to my LHS and turns out Traxxas only shipped three 3.3s me and my buddy purchased 2 and someone else had already purchased the last one.The only other engine in the store that was in my price range considering I had just bought the 3.3 a few weeks ago was the Omega Picco .21 at 159 bucks.I was skeptical at first because I had never heard of this engine but I decided to buy it anyway.After breaking in the engine I noticed a big difference in power over the 3.3.This engine made my maxx move like never before.The first chance I got I reced my friends maxx with the 3.3 and smoked it.The weight difference ment nothing.Now the only downside to the extra power is wear on my truck.I have had to install MIP cvds from the tranny to the rear diff, MIP cvds to the rear tires,robinson racing steel primary forward /reverse and top gears,went from a 17tooth clutch bell back to stock for less take off stress and may need a better slipper clutch set up.So far the plastic shafts up front are holding up probably because it is hard to keep front the wheels on the ground.Now my friend is no RC Guru so maybe he didnt have his 3.3 tuned to par but I will say when we raced my Omega Picco was still set almost at factory settings.Good luck and please let us know how you did the 3.3 is still no slouch.And by the way the cooling fins on the 3.3 are pretty easy to bend so watch out when bashing.

Which omega is it? Is it a drop-in or do you have a 21 converted chassis?

I had an omega 21 Comp that was about the same price as yours 2 years ago in my maxx. It was a real BB though and I had a converted chassis. The engine ran like crap. Horrible mid-range from 1/3-2/3 throttle. Good off the line, good WOT but that was it.

Just curious to know if it was a fluke (I had 2 do the same thing) or if it's just that engine.

well sorry to dissapoint everyone, but my bro-in-law didn't show up for the race. he ordered exauhst and the clutch nut for it from his LHS where he lives and it didn't come in. i got the nut for him at my LHS here in dallas and took it to him. he put his truck together with no exauhst and still had to break in the motor, but with no exauhst there was no pressure to the fuel tank to push the fuel to the carb. he was trying to rig something up to pressure the line , and got it to run some but not enough to break it in. so i guess we will have to wait for another time to do it and i will let everyone know what happens. i am not sure when it will go on. thanks for everyones opinions and experiences.

i dont claim to know a lot about these things, but from what i know...DO NOT run the engine w/o a exaust it will damage it...the engine need the back pressure the pipe produces

that is what i told him, but he thinks he knows more than me. it's not my truck so whatever he wants to do. he had the header and a silicone coupling coming off the motor, thats it.
