My brother in law has a real old t-maxx and he just bought an omega .21 for it because my 3.3 smoked his stock tmaxx this last weekend. we have a race set up in a couple of weeks and i just wanted to see if i was going to get my ass handed to me. the guy at his LHS told him that his would smoke my 3.3 if he put the .21 motor in it. i have a feeling that his driveline or something will break because it is still the narrow tmaxx with stock everything.

if hes leaving his tranny all stock, his tranny will be smoking. There all plastic gears and will last a couple of minutes with a .21 behind it. I've never seen a 3.3 run so I couldnt tell ya who will win (if he does do it right). Let us know after ya guys race.

when i was there this last weekend he told me he had just rebuilt his tranny, so he might have put better gears in it, i am not sure, but i guess we will find out.

I would have to say if he doesn't go out and thrash ohn it and put the extra wear and tear before the big day it should be a good run between you two, I have not seen a 3.3 go neither but my 2.5R will hang semi decent with the big .21 Tmaxx's down the straight in a race, and I can only assume the 3.3 is a bit faster since it's bigger--if your really concerned get a nice pipe and filter for it....should help ya out a little and no matter if it's a drag race or a off road battle the race is lost with out good driving skills.

i think that is what i am going to do. i will have to go by my LHS and see what pipe would be good. i talked to my bro-in-law today and he said he is getting exauhst for his so i need to keep up.

Just gear it differently, man! The lower the final gear ratio, the higher the top speed. Higher the ratio, more punch and acceleration you'll have! I saw a guy running a Revo with the 3.3 at the races this past Saturday and it had some pretty serious giddy-up!

If they make the Resonator pipe for the T-Maxx, I'd suggest that. I know they make one for the Revo, but haven't noticed one for the T-Maxx (but, I haven't looked for it either).

Good luck! Tell us who the winner is!

Well let me know when it happens Phil :hi:

I'm not sure who will win but he really needs a widemaxx kit and some CVD's. Also, I would look into some gearing for your Tmaxx like MW suggested...just incase ;)

If he can get that omega tuned, you might have a problem... I've had 2 omega 21 comp engines (true BB, not a bolt in). I ran it in my maxx, savage and buggy. With the right pipe and carb, it was an insane engine for some reason.

Then again, I'm compairing it to my OS 21 RG...

In it's stock form though, it had a muddy tune from about 1/3 to 2/3 throttle. Off the line was ok and WOT was ok. Everything in the middle sucked. No matter how it was tuned. That was two exactly the same engines. Both had the bad mid-range problem. I gave up and threw them both in a drawer...

I modified an OS 21 RG carb so it would fit. Then the engine was a real screamer with a clean tune from idle to WOT and everything in between. But I wiped out and cracked the carb neck... After trying everything I could think of, I gave up and that's when I threw it in a drawer.

i just seen a tmaxx 3.3 run this past weekend and there are pretty nice and have alot more speed and torque then the old 2.5 but i would have to say i have a maxx converted to a 21 and it has a crappy motor in it and i think i would beat the 3.3 off the line and at top end but not middle the new 3.3 has a solid power band and most 21s dont(at least some I've seen)so i would have to say if you pipe it and a new filter then you might have a chance

i am going to the hobby shop tomorow and going shopping. pipe and filter. hopefully he won't know how to tune it and i will spank him. i will let everyone know after the race. we are racing the weekend of the 22nd.

also i am running 20% nitro, would it help any if i switched to 30% to race?

You doing here in Midland or Dallas?

Anyways, I would run the same %/brand fuel you broke the motor in with but that is just me.

we are acually going to race in austin. we have to go there for my grandparents 50th anniverary, so we are going to take our trucks and race that weekend.

the reason i ask about the nitro % is because in the book it said it makes its max power with 30%. would it hurt anything to use it?

does anyone know of a offroad racetrack in austin?

I've used nitro from 20-40 percent... nothing breaks or anything when you change it, but youll have to change your tune and thats about all. id just stick with 20% its not really worth all the effort. 20% will give longer engine life if you're just bashing around.... and really the race is kinda silly. big block vs smallish block. DEFINITELY VIDEO it tho... i want to see some real footage of a 3.3.

the 3.3 really isnt much smaller then a big block. its .20 compared to .21, and with the smaller engine size overall and less weight, it might help you out.

.21 conversions in tmaxx's also always take some time to setup right. if you get him while its still pretty fresh, id say he'll break off the line or before the race starts, or his tune wont be good enough for max power.

if i were you, id throw a pipe on it ASAP, and a big motorsaver filter, and get your carb settings dialed.

if the mid range is as sloppy as some people are saying, you might not need new gearing at all, if you can put a gap between you and him before you both reach max speed.

i love the rivalries that have come with the new traxxas rigs. revo vs maxx , jato vs rustler... I'm jazzing up my rusty now to try and smoke some jatos.

ok here is the deal, i went to the LHS at lunch and he said that the pipes and air cleaners that are out right now would just slow the 3.3 down. he said that they have not come out with any performance aftermarket stuff for it yet. so i guess i am going to just race as is.

yeah i figured it would be a while before they had good pipes out... just dial in your tune... hope for the best

I'd have to think the trinity revo pipe would work well with it... That's probably the pipe I'll buy in preperation for the 3.3 for my revo.

i like that idea. i went to another hobby shop and he told me the trinity is for a big block and small block, but the displacement of the 3.3 is the same as bigblocks so just pull the plug out and go. i think that is what i am going to do.

I got the THS racing exhaust on my t-maxx 3.3, and it is crazy now! It pulls wheelies running very rich, lots and lots of low-end torque.

Here's a pic of it:
