Like I said in post # 10.
The pins are most likely from the 2nd gear hub (part# 5384), and the hub is most likely destroyed and needs replaced. The pins are pressed into the hub and the pawl/dog of the 2nd gear clutch contacts them when it opens to engage 2nd gear.
