T Maxx 2.5 starting issue

Come on, man. Work with me on this.
I'm trying to get you to where you know the throttle is working the way it should be.
You got high RPM because it wasn't closing to the idle position. If it's closed, it CAN NOT go to high RPM.

I would also advise you to concentrate on the carb linkage/adjustments. Before you can diagnose any engine or tuning problems You must get the throttle linkage working correctly so that the carb returns to the idle gap with no input from the controller (finger off the trigger) and opens fully when you apply wide open throttle with the controller. It should also be adjusted so that when you apply the brake the idle gap does not close any further.
Once you get the throttle working correctly you can then diagnose any other issues you may have, but until then you will just be chasing ghosts if the throttle isn’t working as it should.

Don't ask meaningless questions about what it USED TO DO till we get the basics where they should be.

i think i have found my issue. again, being new to this, i didnt know the truck took 4 batteries. when i took everything apart, i just saw the two. the battery holder thing was jammed in the box. two of the batteries expired in 2011. i just put four new batteries in and the servo works so much better now! however my steering servo isnt working right. it turns the direction i turn, but the wheels are to one side and the farthest they will turn is back straight. i just turned it on again and now it wont even move. i tried adjusting the steering trim on the transmitter but it didnt do anything

so as of now, everything is in proper working order EXCEPT the steering. I'm gonna go try and crank it up though

alright so i started it and the first time, i primed it and it stayed running. WITHOUT the high rpm. it sat there at an idle like it should. pulled the trigger and it went. pushed the trigger and it stopped. then it did the high rpm thing. that couldnt have been the pin because i had it to where it would fully close on its own so that should have been mostly closed but then i even did the brakes so i know it had to have been closed.. every time after that one, it just goes high rpm before i even touch the transmitter

84 posts and NOW you find out you only have 2 dead batteries in it instead of 4 new ones?
You should have started a thread telling us you just got this, you know absolutely nothing about it, and ask us what needs to be checked and what needs to be done before you try to start it. BATTERIES would have been mentioned it the VERY FIRST REPLY!
Your servo now works BETTER? You mean it WORKS, period.
So, now you can't steer, you don't know if your throttle is working correctly but you go out and try to run it.
Well, I don't know where you stopped, what you changed or where to start all over, so I'm taking the next few days off.

no i didnt go out to try and run it. i went out to see if it would even start and stay running. i may be new to this, but I'm not stupid. okay i made a mistake and didnt know it took four batteries. the piece was jammed in there. not my fault.

and it wasn't JUST two dead batteries. i did open it and put two new ones in there. and umm. the very first post does say i just got it. it also says I'm new to the hobby. this isnt even my truck. if its not all in the first post, its in one of the first posts..

You don't mix old and new. 4 brand new ones in the car and 8 brand new ones in the transmitter, and a FULL overnight charge on the ignitor. If you don't start with the simplest problem first, you'll NEVER get this corrected.

According to post #1 you're very knowledgeable mechanically and you made it sound like this thing was almost a total rebuild from bottom to top between you and the hobby shop.
Normally we can get any car running in a dozen posts but you'll have to wait for someone else now.
I need a break.

alrighty well thanks for your help anyways. and it sort of was a total rebuild. i took about everything but the knuckles and the transmission apart..
