Nothing special.

I came across this while looking for sway bars for my savage XL.

I picked up a few items at my LHS.

I used aluminum Itengy Revo ball ends and traxxas plastic ball ends for the rest. The Integy ball ends come threaded with 4M thread, the traxxas ones will accept either 8-32 thread or 4m thread, what ever you have access to. I used 8-32 threaded rod and cut them to length.

You have to pull off the diff case, instructions to do that are in your manual. Once you have the diff. case off you have to drill out the two unused holes at opposite ends of the case. I used a 5/32" bit to make the holes big enough to get the 4M screws through.

Once you've drilled the holes and bent your 1/8" piano wire, you can assemble the whole thing. I missed most of the assembly pics, but the link I provided should fill in the rest.

seems to work good so far.

I was wondering if they made sway bars for the XL as I see it looks as if they could be installed but after seeing your project my guess is no they don't make them. Very nice, I should be able to come up with something like that.

you can buy them direct from HPI, but I figured it was a simple enough project. Any amount of dampening provided by the sway bars is lost in the tall side walls on the XL tires so I think it's best suited for smaller tires. The X and XSS have a smaller tire size so I think the bars will work best with these trucks, especially if you use truggy tires.
