I go to the hobby store to buy the parts then I fix it myself. It helps you understand your car more.

the only time i turn it over to the LHS is if it needs something i can't figure out or a lot of work, but i usually (90% of the time) fix it myself.

I've been on both sides of that coin, having worked in a hobby shop doing repairs and owning R/Cs for a long time (15+ years or so). I always do my own repairs, unless it's something a warranty covers (like an ESC, servo, or the like).

Well... in the 8 years I've been in the hobby, I've never taken to the store for repair. Only to pick up parts. The only way my trucks see the store is if I'm buying it and it leaves with me. Although, I've found that buying used is much more profitable in most cases...

I take mine to HobbyTown USA when they ask me to bring it in so someone can see it.
So far, no one has even tried to touch it. :whhooo:

LHS = good place to get parts/fuel and talk, that's it. I know repairs aren't everyone's 'cup-o-tea', and that's cool, but I figure if I can't fix it myself, I shouldn't own it. JMO

Can't say I blame them; that much shiny metal, it probably throws off a real blinding glare. :hehe:

I have so far never taken my truck to a LHS for repairs however if after i get it all back together and running again and its still running hot i may be temped to cause i've checked almost everything

I have never had a LHS repair my car and don't plan on it, go there for advise once in a while, parts and to BS thats about it....

Not sure about your LHS, but mine will actually take you out back behind the strip mall and help you tune the motor. I know a lot of shops will just do it for you, which is fine, but it doesn't help the user learn anything about tuning and IMO, that's the hardest part of this hobby.

+1 here.

I used to teach people who were buying their first car all they needed to know during the sales. I even had a little pamphlet that contained "care and feeding" instructions, as well as a reminder "remember, you are welcome to bring it back to the shop at any time if you have any questions".

A little kindness goes a long way towards keeping people interested in the hobby; both in a shop and on a forum.

That is good beacause I would hate to think some one could get finger prints on the Savvys wax job....

I never go to my LHS for mechanic work....also they don't speak English soooo a bit of a language barrier.

I agree.. I live in the third largest city in Indiana. And there is only 2 hobby stores that sell Nitros. One store the guy doesn't hardly know anything thing about the things, just sells the parts and the trucks and cars. And the other is a Hobby Town USA, and he has a guy come in only on Sundays to do repairs and things like that for you. It's kinda sad that hobby stores nowadays don't know much about the things they actually sell...:\ I have to drive 45 mins to a place to get mine looked at, just because I'm not mechanically inclined. I try to work on it, and am only able to do minor repairs. lol I at least try though before I give up and take it in!:D

My LHS calls me to fix customer's rides! I do alll my own maintenance. The internet plus a ton of hands on experience and hanging out with pro racers has paid off.
