Firstly i'd like to apologise to all those who think my question is lame!

I'm nev to RC's and dont know of anyone at the moment who has one of these, i recently purchased a second hand Tamiya TGS Ford Fiest 03 Nitro street car so i can begin to learn about them before i commit myself to an expensive model.

I've seen a few videos of nitro cars, where they stand still even if the engine has been switched on. My cars wheels start spinnig straight away and even when i apply the breaks it doesn't stop just slows down a little bit.

what am i doing wrong? is there anything that needs to be adjusted?

Thanks in advance for any help or pointers!

Welcome to RCNT!

It could be a couple things. First thing I would check is the trim for the throttle/brake servo. The trim (found on the transmitter) is used to center the servo.

My first thought was that the idle was too high, but the fact that the brakes are not responding well, I would start with the trim.

Mr T

To add to that, check the clutch assembly. When the car is not running, you should be able to turn the gears without turning the engine crank. It's not likely, but just something to think about.

I'd first check what Mr T suggested. Sounds like the idle is too high.

Thank you all for the suggestions, i will look in to everything you have said and will give the car a good go this weekend.

Plaidfish, that book you suggested looks like something that i should really get, unfortunatly the ebay link you have given is for an american site and i live in the UK. But i am going to have a good hunt on the internet to see if i can get hold of that book here in the UK!

Will report back!

sounds to me like the brakes arent set up right, therell probably be an adjuster, itll go from the throttle servo, (opposite end to the that for the engine) and if you put the transmitter on full reverse, just adjust the brake so it is on and the car doesn't move...

if it is that issue

um neither of those ws an e-bay link....one was just a description of the book from a hobby shop and the other was a link to a thread on this forum for another member who is selling it......not sure if he'd be able to ship it to UK cheaper than you'd get it locally though

First welcome to RCNT BoyWonder!

Speaking of books and such check you might want to check out our R/C Books page as one book in mind that would probably help a lot if the "Ultimate Nitro Engine Guide".
