Hey guys,

Does anyone own a Super Brain 959? I'm a bit confused about it. When I charge my 7.2V pack, the charger would display something like 8.48V. What do these numbers represent? The voltage of my pack? Also, for the Delta Peak, it auto sets it at 40. Isn't that a bit high? I know on my Piranha charger manual it says to set it at around 6mV. This would set it at 40mV? People would set it at 20mV and say it's fine, but I'm still confused about all this. The manual doesn't say much either, so I'm really confused. If you guys can help me, I'd be real happy. Thanks!

7.2 volts is its nominal voltage and nimh packs will charge about 1 volt higher than their stated rating. This is normal. The voltage will not be that high for very long once you start to use it.

If the delta peak is set to 40mV, lower it to 5 mV per cell to start.

You'll know the delta V is set correctly when the pack reaches approx 115 degrees F at the end of the charge cycle.

Also, here is some good reading on nimh pack care. It's stickied at the top of this forum.

I just reread your manual, it does mean 40 mV per cell. My post is edited and corrected.

I have had good with that version of the Super Brain other than I can't get it to charge a glow plug stick more than half way to save my life. Even when I put a 4200 cell in it I could not get it to take more than 1500 MHA. I turned the peak all the way up and still nothing. Hate to have to buy another charger just for that. Any ideas Diesel?

Not to derail, but how do you know how much charge it has given a glow cell? I have a 590 and I charge mine at .5A and the cell usually ends up warm, so I figure it's charged... granted, I'm using a "generic" nicad (or whatever comes in my heater). Is there a setting on the 959 that tells you the charge quantity?

I was thinking about getting a better cell. Honestly though, I have yet to have mine die on me, but I top it off before every weekend I plan to bash.

I've never seen the setting where you can check how much has been charged in it =/. That's one aspect I miss from my Piranha.

Oh... you know what, my bad I have the 989 super brain so it has the display that tells you how much juice actually went in to the battery....but still I can't get it to charge an igniter for crap.
