I got some new 8.4v 5000MaH batteries for the Summit today. Brought the batteries home, charged them on the peak charger, they charged to 9-10v. Put them in the truck and they were dead before I got the lid on. Tried to charge them again, and the summit ran for like a minute then started to lose charge. What am I doing wrong?

New batteries usually need to be cycled up to 10 times before they reach their peek. The voltage really means nothing when charging you want to watch your mah on your charge.

What's the best way to cycle them? Sorry, I normally run nitro, but its not nearly warm enuff

Just charge them normally, then run them down in your truck. It will take a few charges until they will hold there rated capacity. However, they should still run longer than that, even though they are new.

That seems really odd that they went dead instantly. Even though they need many cycles, they should hold a charge. What charger are you using?

Onyx 240
They are deffinatly taking longer to charge this time. Up to about 13 mins now. First charge only took like 3 mins

They are onyx 5000 batteries also

I think it should take longer than 13 minutes to fully charge them. My 3000mah take about 45 mins.

Last set of batteries I got first charge was only 250 mah. That would not even turn a motor over

How long did you have them on the charger?

Had one on for 24 mins before the charger shut off @ 1567mAh
The other 71 mins shut of at 4526 mAh. Draining the 1500 battery with an old motor, gonna recharge it, and run them. Should be good now I think!
Thanks guys!

And just this morning I said electric was easy!

Drop the charge Amperage down and see if you can get them to charge fully. If you try to charge NiXX packs like you do Lipos they will usually overheat and cause a temp cut off or they will simply cut off from to much resistance. The smaller the cell the lower amperage needed for example my 7.2V 1500mah packs that are made from sub C sized cells can take a charge nicely at 1A. My 6V 1400mah RX packs that are made with 2/3A cells have to be charged at about 1/2A to get a full charge on em, and my battery pack for my liquid soap dispenser which is a 6V 1100mah AAA pack has to be charge at like .3A in order to get a full charge on them. bear in mind these are Amp ratings which wont trigger the thermal cut-off. I could charge them slightly higher if i removed the temp monitor but that decreases cell life if your charging them too hot.
