I'm thinking about getting myslef a subaru outback or impreza as my travel vehicle, not the wrx or sti just the plain jane. The main reason I'm looking into one of these is they get descent gas milage, and are all wheel drive.

Do any of you guys own a subaru? If so how do you like it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it?

My ex ma-in-law and a friend both have outbacks, both high miles. Neither one has really had a problem. I would have to approve of that purchase. I just gotta like the cup holders and I'm happy!

Believe it or not VB, the last time I was in Maine I rented a Subaru legend wagon, 6 cyl, 4WD. It was early May so there was some rain, a day of snow and otherwise dry weather. I flogged that thing on the small highways from Bucksport, to Bangor, Castine, Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, well, you get the picture. It got fantastic mileage, had decent accelleration and stuck like glue to the road in all conditions. I drove dirt roads, fast on small, twisty backroads, everything.

Seeing as how it was a rental agency car, it was pretty much midline as far the equipment level, but it was AWD and a 6 cyl. I would have bought one. (roomy, too)

Thanks guys, thats what I was hoping to hear. My honda is on its way down, and I want to be able to pick somting up quick. I drive 120 miles a day so I want something reliable, and good in all weather conditions. I love my honda, but its time to try somthing else.

Oh and RR it sounds like you put some milage on that thing. How long did you have it?

2 weeks. Rental was for unlimited mileage. Should have seen the look on the rental agent's face when we dropped it off. I forgot, we went to New Brunswick, Portland, and Sugar Bowl (I think that is what it is called) with it as well.

And I am being honest by saying I was impressed considering it's mid-level accrutements.

my buddy has a Sti, and he LOVES it. He swears up and down with subaru. It is a nice little care, and handles VERY nice. You should hit up Bruce @ Rush. He either just got or is getting a Sti.

Wifey has a 02 Outback H6 LL Bean Edition. It's loaded and has excellent power and acceleration. Gotta love the Boxer engine. As mentioned, it sticks to the road in all conditions and handling is top notch. It will happily cruise at 90+ without a hiccup and you never feel out of control. We have also never had a problem with it at all. One thing of note, with the H6 engine, you need to use high octane fuel or you will loose performance. The wife put the low octane stuff in it once and you could really tell the difference. The maunual only reccomends high octane. PM me with any questions you may have.

We have a 02 outback sport (impreza wagon) its a nice running car. things I like about it are.

1 it runs well.
2 you can drive for hours and not tire of it (the seats are good)
3 its sporty handles well in all weather.
4 good dash lighting (I'm old )
5 its quite inside when the windows are closed.
6 good milage around 26 freeway 22\23 city.
7 they keep you safe in a crash ( subaru 1 full size blazer dead but thats another story lol )

Things I dont like

1 the trunk is kind of small in the wagon
2 the roof rack could be better
3 not much leg room in the back seat ( and I'm not that tall of a driver only 5'9)
4 there is alot of wind noise when the windows are cracked ecen just a little bit ( well alot if you ask me but speed is a factor here)

Thanks for the info guys, I'm dealing with a dealer now. I'm considering a new one, well actually an 05. I'm still not really in a rush, but if it happens it happens.

I drove the WRX and that wagon/truck thing (outback??)
LOVED EM......I really want to get a mini but that's just too impracticle.......unless I keep my truck......why not get the WRX.....when I went the price difference was only like 4g.....for the power and goodies it had seems well woth it and w/ only wanting to put 2500 down and no trade it only rasied th ebuy price about 50 bucks a month......be a tough negotiator and just walk out if he won't meet you in the middle...hell you're in the sticks dude...not like these are just flying out the door in droves from his lot.......

Good point plaid! Do they make the WRX in auto? My wife can't drive a stick so that is out the window. I know it sucks, but I don't really have a choice in the matter.
