ok its time i compleatly recover my dell 8200 it has windows XP but i dont know how to do a compleate system restore? it didnt come with a restore disk and i can not find in the book where to go to do my system restore ?? help me out computer guys
thanx

Get on Dell's site, or call them, and demand (politely) a system restore disk. Every branded computer (desktop or laptop) now days comes with a system restore and an app restore disk. Did you get your system NIB?

rs43drifter - How many partitions is your hard drive split into? If you have a C and a D drive (both being hard drives and not cdroms or whatever) then more then likely the restore info is on that second partition. HP computers are notorious for splitting the hard drive in two and putting the restore info on the second hard drive and not giving the customers CD's.

i also have a dell 8200, and mine didn't come with a system restore disc either. i think you're supposed to somehow do it with the os install disc...not sure

i got mine about a year and a half ago if it matters at all

I'll be another to say that Dell does not give you a restore disk. My Inspiron crashed after a months worth of use. I spent hours on the phone with tech support installing disk after disk untill we got it right. It's been over a year now with no other problems.
I think Dell Does not include a restore disc because they include the original XP software as well as all the necessary drivers and other utilities on various discs. You just install what you need and want. No added BS.
I'm a little illiterate when it comes to this stuff, but this is what i figure.

I think alot of the computer companies are holding back on the disks. I know the sony vaio I just got a couple of weeks ago never came with any disks, it was all preloaded and you could make one of your own on the DVD burner or send away for one, go figure. They do some strange things these days to save a few dollars.

ok i called them and it was a pain in the ass i swear ill never do that again you have to delete msdos and a non-dos disk crap and then you use the applications cd and thats about 1% of what you have to do it is alot of BS!!! it took about 5 hours to fix and i still have to install some drivers and my modem and printer and just about everything all in all DELL'S suck and having to restore

That's kind of odd that they quit sending restore disks. I have owned 2 Sony laptops, and my Dad 1. All three came with a very nice set of disks.

I do remember that my old Dell Dimension 450 PII did not come with a restore disk, only the OS (original 98) like someone had already mentioned.

As a side not, Apple still sends really nice DVD restore disks.

I have bought 100's of Dell's for my companies and suggested and setup for people and they ALL come with the disks to restore it to factory. If you didn't get them you bought it used, threw it away, or need to call them to send you a set. I call bullshit. I see so many users bitch and the problem is them.
