I am a proud storm RTR ownner.. and boy its pretty.... its been sitting on my floor for a week now. The gas tank hasnt even seen nitro yet. I am skeeeered to attempt to break the motor in. Reason is..for one i am a newbie to nitro. and 2....The storm i bought looked like a return to the store. The seal to the box was broken on both sides. The guy at my LHS said to not mess with the settings to the motor untill time to break in. But how do i know that someone didnt mess with the settings and took the thing back to the shop. Is there a way i can check the valve settings before i mess with it? This is the only thing keeping me from having some fun..plz helpppppp

Didnt realize the seals to the box were broken till i got it home...i drove 67 miles to get it..and i wasn't going backkkkk

Welcome to the site, congrats on the new storm! first of all, the broken seals on the box dont always mean the car was a return, it may have been the last one the store had and was a display for a while, if there was never fuel in the tank thats a pretty good sign that it wasn't a return, I suggest you read your manual, then read it again! If this is your first nitro car and you havnt done so already, read this link https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7217, it will help you understand some things that arent in your manual, you already have the car and if you learn a few things first you will be a happier driver later, dont let the nitro intimidate you, but dont be too anxious either! now fire that thing up and get it broken in!just remember this, Learn before you burn! your gonna have a blast with that thing!
good luck!

Geez NM, sounds like familiar words! Good thing he doesn't have your phone # to vent his frustrations when it won't start.

Wan, remember to just take your time. There's a big learning curve that you need to get through. At least you found the site that will help you. If you really need help, I'll give you Nitromaniac's home phone # so you can bother him. :jk:

just a side note - hobby shops will NEVER EVER take a rc product back that has been used. so i wouldnt worry too much about it being returned.

sure feel much better about the seals being broken. I freaked out when I saw it...was pretty pissed. But now after talking to yall I wont even worry about it. Everything looks new on the buggy. Hope thinkgs will work out. And sure thing will keep u posted on the break in. I am starting to love this stuff:redbuggy:

Thats nothin! Just wait till you hear that thing fire up for the first time! you will soon learn, this isnt a hobby, its an addiction!

Wan, ship it here to NYC at your own risk! I'll break it in, but won't promise a return date!:naughty:

All kidding put aside, breakin is not as difficult as it seems. Only thing hard about it is keeping control of your trigger finger when you start running it. Just take it easy. Just like breaking in a new car, give it time for the internal parts to smooth things out and conform to each other.

Diver... no return date?? on second thought, the guy in the brown uniform wont come to you house anytime soon...LOL!!!!!
Geeezee the inticipation is killing me!!!! COME ON weeeeekendd! It just can't get here fast enough!!!!! :jet:
Yeah i bet the trigger finger is hard to keep doing what u want it to do. I will be sure to keep it easyyyyy.
Nitromanic..what fuel do you run in your STORM? do you have the stock air filter? I keep reading to replace the air filter and to get ride of the noisey stock pipe.

Wan,

Both Nitromaniac and I use Monster Trinity 20%. It's a good fuel. No matter what fuel you use, stay at that percentage. 20% is pretty much the general concensus butif you want to change the percentage, only go up in percentage. Don't go down. Whatever you use for break in, pretty much, stick to it.

BTW, if you still want to send it up here, I'll even pay for the shipping ... is christmas coming early here on my block?-xmas-

Wan,, I use Trinity monster20%, but the last trip to the LHS they were out of it so I got a jug of odonell20%, I like it just the same as the trinity,, I dont know whats available to you in your area but the top selling fuels should be easy to find! Trinity, blue thunder, Odonell, stick with 20% you would only go up to 30% if you had a racing mill, and since you dont, I would not recomend ever running 30% in your mill, It would run like a raped ape but only for a short period of time before you were rebuilding it, dont worry about it your car will be plenty fast with 20%! buggies are built for jumping not for speed, dont get me wrong here, I love watching my buggy flyin down the straight, but I love watching it fly through the air better! as far as the break in goes! This is how I broke mine in and it worked very well for me, my buggy runs great and fires up 1st pull everytime! first, make sure your radio and trans are on, this is important because If you fire up with your rcvr off you can damage your mill before you know it, it will start full throttle and well, you can guess what happens after that! I ran three tanks of fuel at factory settings(very rich) without even touching the trigger, just let it idle and walk away from it,keep your eye on it but dont give it any throttle, its a good idea to hold on to your car when its about to run out of fuel during brake in, its going to rev up for a few seconds before it runs empty, now after three tanks you can start to give it some short bursts of throttle, about 1/4 throttle bursts should be fine,5th tank you can start leaning now, remember, when you start to lean your carb do it a little at a time!6th tank you can run the car now but make sure you do not do any WOT(wide open throttle) runs, this is not the time to get anxious and impress the neighbors with your new car, be patient here, this is tough because your gonna feel like a little kid with a new toy, and trust me, your gonna have a huge smile on your face! but that smile will soon turn to a frown if your not patient through these steps!
now after the above steps you can start running and leaning till your happy with the perfomance! you should always see a blue smoke trail coming out of your of your stinger when you accelerate and will become less as your speed increases, but should always be there, If you have no blue smoke trail at all, you are running too lean, you should richen right away if this is the case! Now , I wouldnt normally post my break in procedure because everyone has their own tecniques for break ins, this way has worked for me with 5 mills and I am sticking to it with all my new 21.mills in the future! now as far as the stock pipe and filter go, I like my stock pipe, I may have some neighbors that wish it were quieter but screw them! I like the sound! nothing wrong with the stock filter for now, you can change it out later! no matter what filter you get, keep it clean and well oiled, dust and carbs dont mix! now, I tried to be as thorough as I could with the above info, but as you will see when you get started there will be some frustrating moments, your gonna expereince a few things like compression, wait till you start pulling on that thing, this aint your daddys lawn mower! remember this too, your starting at factory settings(rich) you may go through a glo plug or two, have some spares on hand, If your car dosnt start at all dont get pissed, just breath and figure out the problem, all engines will start! be patient and leave what ever temper you have at the door, you can't do this pissed off, trust me, it just dosnt work that way! Now get out there and learn to drive that damn thing! but dont launch it just yet! that will come later!lol!:redbuggy:

just another note on fuel percentages. 1. stick with 20% - its a good all around performer, and what ever u use for break in, plan on using in the car. dont break in with 10% nitro, 18%oil, then switch to 20% nitro, 12% oil. 2. Dont use 30% in that engine, it will predetonate and bend the rod. If u want to use 30%, u will need to shim the head, and be very good at tuning.

No way Diver...I like my storm here in Texas!!! You can't have all the fun all the time!
You guys are something else...in no way did i ever think i could get this much help without going to the LHS! woowhoooo!..its a long drive for me.

Nitrom....Nitroa ....Diver!! Thanks for the break in tips above. Thats what i will do. I was lost on the fuel %ages. That was some great insight! I need to print this out and keep it. Makes since to burn a few tanks without touching the throttle. 20% nitro is what i will use. Oh yeahh.. the starter box the LHS sold me comes with 10 % nitro..very small bottle...could i slowly pass it mixed in with 20% over a crap load of tanks..or is that a ...no no??? Wheres a good website to buy glowplugs??.. i only have the one that came with the box.

sure send me some more links..i can never have to many:cheerful: .....
