Hey guys I have noticed recently a lot of people talking about eating spur gears...and I have had my tmaxx for about 3 or 4 weeks and notcied a chunked tooth when I got it and it eventually stripped the whole thing but took some pretty good bashing b4 it went...

I have stripped several gears on my stampedes and started searching on ebay and saw steel gears which I thought could be bad b/c if it binds you could bend/break the crank instead of stripping the gear... what do you guys think?

If you loosen the slipper a little more you shouldn't have any problems with breakage... But steel spurs take away a breakage point in the event of a problem, so you may have some drivetrain issues if you switch. You might look into other alternatives like a 'kevlar' spur, which isn't hard enough not to break if there are problems.

try to stick with stock or kimbrough type spurs unless your seriously dumping money into your tranny.

plus some revo owners around me with steel spurs say they get glitches from time to time.

i had an integy steel spurr and i broke about 1/3 of the gear off. i use stock spurs now and just check my mesh more often. i havent had to touch it in a while. I have found that using blue loctite on all metal to metal holds much better, go figure huh!! lol

my original problem and reason for replacing with a metal was because it would land upside down on the motor and change my mesh, stripping the spur. now that i run a new era 3pt roll bar that isnt an issue anymore and have since switched back to the stock plastic gear
