RC Driving Style
I will purchase an aftermarket brake hub for the 25 but don't know what to get: Hot bodies Steel or aftermarket Aluminum. I realize the Steel is heavier but durable and aluminum is lighter but durability is questioned...I will be using stock pads.

Any suggestions or comments?

With stock pads you can probably use the aluminum one and be OK. If you decide to use steel brake disk(s) you may want the steel hub. As a note, the HB steel hub is one piece and replaces the cup, the aluminum ones just replace the plastic piece, or the ones I've seen anyway. This means certain universals or CVD's I've seen won't work with the HB steel hub cause some of them are meant to replace the cup on the transmission side instead of the diff side. Now that I think about it...maybe the ones made to mount on the tranny side you could just turn it around and mount on the diff side anyway?
 
i've got the hot bodies one and i myself thought it was aluminium but it's steel i think, it isn't that heavy really but it stops me from stripping them.
 
Yeah I also use the HB one and it seems to be doing great so far. I don't see the usual wear from the pin on the dogbone that I do on the stock HPI cups. The one from HB also is a little wider I think, which helps if you are planning on running dual disks to give them enough surface area so they won't slide off.
 
Sorry to post this , I'm not sure bout it... But just remeber this.. Dont use to much steel if you dont need to... It makes it weigh more ya know...Aluminum may bend easier but it would be better in the long run. -Colton
 
You should check out the Dual Disk Brake kit from HPI for the Savage. It eliminates the use of the Hub completely.
 
I would go with the steel. Lets remember this is a monster truck and durability is a factor, thats a whole lota ass to stop. Instead of the dual disc you can make your stock brake work better by cutting a little notch out of the throttle servo saver spring, that way the servo does not have to overcome the spring. The truck stops just as good or better then one with a dual disc.
 
The Hot Bodies steel disc I just picked up is pretty damn thick and beefy. I went with the 'better single disc' concept as well. I just hope it works out.

I'm thinking that sooner or later I'm going to have to strengthen the linkage as well as the servo itself If I want utopia.
