Hi,

In my LHS I was told that I can only use Associated Starter box for my car (NTC3 RTR).
Is that right?
Which one else can I use? Spur recommendations.

I have pull start now. Will I need to make some changes to the car if I want to use Starter Box?

You can use any starter box you want on that car. The only thing you will have to do is simply move some of the pegs around to accomodate the car, or take the pegs off all together. However, I would recommend a starter box w/ a high torque motor. The ones w/ the dual 550 or single 750, just couldn't spin my sirio over (due to the tight compression).

You might be able to use the flywheel that's on the car now. It all depends on the size of it and how far it sticks down, where the starter wheel meets. I have the NTC3 RTR which had the stock pullstart .12. I took the flywheel off and put it on my new Sirio and currently use a starter box with no problems. So you should be fine.
 
You can use any starter box you wish. All you have to do is set the alighnment pegs correctly so the wheel lines up with your flywheel. I use the OFNA multistart box (pink box).

This box has a single hightorque motor and is enough to turn my Novarossi NS12S3A1 engine. The AE starter box doesn't have enough power to turn this engine when it was new. I tried and it always slipped or bogged down. The belts and motors inside were too weak, even with a fresh battery. If you wish to use a starter box with your pull start, just leave it the way it is. You'll be fine.

For the spur combination, I use the 21/27 spur combo with a 54/48 tooth spur. The take off is intense and the shift is visible (like a sling shot). Granted, you have to have an engine that will take this combo (power wise) to really appreciate it.
 
The one that I posted worked well on the track that I race at. When I had the original gears that came with the kit (22/26 & 54/50) it put way too much torque down in first gear for a solid holeshot (too much wheel spin) and wound out the engine too soon in second gear. I then tried 20/26 & 50/48 but the holeshot was sluggish and the engine seemed to want more so I went up 1 tooth each on the pinion combo (21/27) and that is what I have now. The 20/26 is good for tracks with long straights and a relatively nontechnical infeild. Much like the 1/8 style tracks where you can keep your speed up in the sweeping turns.

Also keep in mind, a strong engine is needed to really see the performance in my gear combo in order to appreciate it. I wouldn't recomend a 6 tooth shift for an OS .12cv. Something along that line of sport engine likes the 4 tooth shift.

Most Italian engine's (Nova Mega, Novarossi, RB, etc) can handle the gear ratio I have for the NTC3. This car is heavier than the higher end cars.
