Hey guys, i just got bit by the crawling bug.lol. Anyway, my local track is opening a crawler course soon I've always liked crawlers. I have been looking at the axial scx10 trucks and i love them.. i do understand that the scalers are not full-out comp crawlers. If i were to get a comp crawler instead, it would prob be the xr-10. I've also sceen the Scorpion, but I've heard they dont make them anymore?? I like the scorpion because its kindo of a mix of both. I will mainly be messing around at the new course and driving around dirt piles and by rocks at the beach.:D What do you guys reccomend.

Xr10 will be the best performer out of the box. Just needs tires and electronics.

Thats part of the original question - There really isnt a do it all comp rig that can be built like a scaler. Your closest choice IMO would probably be the Wraith. Its a newer rig with MANY aftermarket parts available. While not a full out crawler you get a little speed with decent crawling capabilities. Just a thought. I'm building a "Wroncho" which is a mix of the Wraith and a SCX10 (All the best of both crammed together). Till its finished my AX10 services me quite well. By no means a comp rig but it can crawl on almost anything.

The SCX-10 is a decent trail rig. Mine runs great with a brushless setup just about anywhere I want to run. It's not a comp level crawler, but I've got a Losi Mini Rock Crawler that isn't bad at all.

Ok thanks! all consider it. Do you know it you can use any other bodies with it?

You can use any body you want. Its all about thinking outside the box and doing some custom cutting for the wheelwells. I've got a Chevy C10 for a stampede on mine now:

Its no show piece by any means but 1 to bash off some good rocks anyway

Yea, i was looking at the Ridgecrest and liked it. I was reading around on a few forums, including this one, and people are saying they dont like it that much(i guess from the looks?) Are the new mods worth it if i get the ridgecrest, or should i just try to find an older, used Ax10 scorpion? Thanks for the input guys:)

I am actually starting to like the Rridgcrest, with an aftermarket body that will bolt up like the oem one, would look great!

I myself have owned lots of crawlers and scalers and you have to be prepared for the limitations of both sides. If your looking for a true 1:1 4x4 trail/rock climber, the SCX10 is the one. If your looking for a little more of a massive rock climber that can articulate to like 50* then the AX10 is for you. If your looking for a trail truck but handle some decent climbs, rocks and water, the Axial Wraith is for you.

I've had a Wraith and was too big for my likings, much harder to do certain rock piles with valleys in them.

I love my scx10s I've had and currently what I own now.

Hope this helps?

Yea i could care less about what the body looks like, there are plenty of options for that. This hasnt come out yet right? I kind of like the ridgecrest because it sort of looks liike a mix of the axial wraith and the Scorpion. The axial website says it has more speed than before? like aroung 5-6 mph mabey?

The Ridgecrest is a solid platform to build on but again it comes down to what kinda rig you really want. The AX10 (Ridgecrest) is a good all around crawler. The XR is a completely different rig - a compitition rig. I've seen plenty of AX10's built to look like a scaler but still do admirally well on the rocks. Theres no making a XR look like a scaler. Back in your court as far as what you really want.

Yea i think i would lean more towards tha ax10 because i want more of a "basher" rig. Thanks for the help guys. There will prob be more questions to come! haha:hehe:

If you want a fun kit to build, the SCX-10 is great one. It took me about 7 hours to get it running.

I second this motion, I also would say the SCX10 would be a better bashing rig because the stock chassis plates on the AX10 are very soft compared to the SCXs C-Channel chassis frame.

Yea i really like the looks of the SCX10 but I'm just not sure if that would be what would be the best for what i would do with it. BUT its always an option and may just end up with one:D

Ya I hear ya on that, lol, I think you'll be happy with with the scx10 or the new revamped ax10, with some minor upgrades you will be having a blast on the rocks or out on a trail some where. :D
