hey guys, so i'm looking to get an electric monster truck for my wife & been looking at the stampede 4x4 vxl. just wondering if any of you have this truck & is it tough like my savage x 4.6? would i have to do any upgrades to add 2s or 3s lipo? how much run time do you get on a single charge? i have no experience with electric so not sure what to get or look for. any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's a pretty tough rig. It's pretty top heavy out of the box and we spent a lot of time on the lid. We had to do several upgrades to make it truly bash friendly. RPM stuff front to back and sway bar set up.

I bought an HPI Savage XS Flux. It's a tough little dude. A called it my little mobile brick. Cause that's what it is. Wide open cart wheels across the pasture, just to land feet down and keep on truckin. I've smashed into everything possible with that thing. I run a 2s lipo on it and it easily hits 40+ on the highway.

actually i was also looking at the savage xs & merv but was wondering if being a 1/16 scale it might not handle high grass & rough torrain. i don't want to be confined to road & mowed lawn. heard the xs was tough as hell though. so would the xs be able to do rough torrain like my savage x 4.6?

The merv will be too small for tall grass and rough terrain. If you did go that route you would have to mess with the gearing in order to keep motor temps low. The XS would be a better choice over the merv but is still fairly small at 1/12 scale. I would go with the 4x4 pede, or another 1/8 scale savage.

Regardless of what vehicle i get (leaning toward savage xs) what should i get for a battery 2s? is 3s too much without doing upgrades? what kind of battery should i get? is run time real long or should i get 2 batteries? Sorry for all the questions but i'm new to electric. Thanks for any insight.

i run 2s on my vxl pede and its PLENTY of power....i would imagine that more power is always better though...lol...ill probably get a 3s eventually but I'm sure ill still mostly run my 2s batteries...

I run 3s on my mERV and before I installed the center diff had a hard time keeping it off of its lid.

pugs, are you happy with your pede? is it 4x4? i've been looking at lipo batteries & there are soooo many. not sure what brand or mah or what to look for in general. anyone have any suggestions?

i love my pede...its just 2wd vxl but its loads of fun...i use sky lipo and gensacearespammers 2s 40c 5000mah and I'm very pleased with them...

I got a mamba esc with traxxas bl motor in my pede. It's the only rig I currently run these days to get my RC fix. I push mine on a venom 5000 3s.

so pugs, you have a sky lipo battery thats 2s 40c 5000mah? what is gensacearespammers? would i have to change anything from stock? looking at either a savage xs or stampede 4x4 vxl. sorry about questions but as you can tell i know nothing about electric rc.

alpine is your pede 4x4? did you have to change esc & motor to run 3s? also would 2s work with stock setup for awhile?

yes my sky lipos i run in my pede are 2s 40c 5000mah...i actually wanted the gensacearespammers but they were out at the time...i have a bunch of small gens aces and sky lipos for my mini crawler and they all perform fantastic...and no the stock set up on a vxl pede will for sure handle 2s batteries...i think 3s is the max on it though...ill say this though...after running it on these 2s 40 sky batteries i dont even see a need for a 3s...its so freaking out of control with the 2s in my opinion a 3s is just unnecessary....that said...I'm sure ill order one before to long...get a 2s and see if your happy with its performance...I'm sure you will be..mine is a beast on 2s and it runs cool as a cucumber...now this is on a 2wd rig...the 4x4 may benefit from a 3s i don't know since i dont have one....but i would suggest the 4x4 over the 2wd....the 2wd with all that power takes some getting used to...

pugs thanks for info. i'ts been very helpfull. much appreciated!!!

glad i could help...have fun with what ever you get man...
and as far as savage xs or a 4x4 pede....id say that either would be a good choice really...i have heard wonderful things about both of those trucks so i don't think you can really go wrong with either...just gotta pick one...lol

Nope it's a 2wd stampede. I just changed the esc because I had it laying around. The stock velenion esc can take 2s or 3s. Just make sure you adjust your lvc to whichever batteries you are running so you don't hurt your batteries.

ok thanks alpine. what is lvc? thanks very much for help. (obviously i need it)

I love my Pede to death. In stock form 3s is almost uncontrollable, with and extended chassis setup it's just right.

HPIGuy,

What is this extended chassis you talk about ? I just picked up a 3s 6400 mah for my Stampede 4x4vxl and from what I'm reading its a fair amount of power for their size and control and stability may suffer?

thanks

Andrew
