My sons electric Stampede went into the pool and seemed ok at the time. I know it says waterproof and all but I was a little worried but it kept running. It even started a few more times after that in the following days.
Now it wont turn on. I charged the batteries completely before attempting but it still didn't work. The light is on (kind of) on the speed control. I think that's what it's called. The light seems to to be on then when you hit the throttle on the remote it goes out.

Any ideas on what may need replacing? I'm new to this and could use any help I can get. Is it the speed control? Or something else.

Thanks in advance

I would first start with the esc!! check and see when u turn it on your steering servo is still working and if it is your reciever should be alright!!! Its a waterproof stampede the reciever box is sealed up pretty good!!! the motor should be all good!!!

I forgot to mention that the steering is working when I power up the unit. So you think it's most likely the ESC? Thanks for the help.

Is the a brushed or brushless setup? If it's a brushed setup, easy way to tell is unhook the motor from the ESC, and connect it to a small battery and see if it runs. If so, it's the ESC.

It's the brushed model. My sons first one to get him up and running. So when you say small battery, you mean like a household double A or 9-volt etc...? Or am I way off?

Nah, something that size will work. Also, make sure you either pull the motor or the pinion gear so the truck doesn't try and move, and the motor isn't trying to pull the truck weight while testing. You just need a few seconds of running to confirm it isn't the motor.

HPIguy, I just touched the motor POS/NEG to a 9-Volt battery and I got nothing. I also used a Double A but got nothing as well. I had the motor pulled and I unplugged the wires. Am I doing this correctly? :\

Ok I just found a video on Youtube of someone testing a 12T motor. They were using a battery from the truck itself so that's what I did and I still got nothing. Sounds like a motor now I think. Probably not terrible since the ESC is more money anyway. Just ordered a 12T online for $17. Wish me luck! Thanks for the help. Now I know how to test it next time I burn it out!

You got lucky this time. :hehe:

Right! :D Hey should I be looking out for temp on the truck when I'm using it? Maybe I burned it out and it wasn't the pool. After all it did run fine after going into the pool. I've heard some people talking about temps but how do I check that?

Ok so I just replaced the motor and it fired right up. Unfortunately it seems to be running a little erratically now. It seems to jump a little without using the throttle. Is this a sign of something else wrong?

could be interference. did the old motor have a resistor in between the leads that you may not have transferred over?

No everything looks the same. I just took the gear off and put on the new one because they don't come with a new one. I'm going to run it outside today to see if it keeps up. Let me know if there is anything else you can think of. Thanks for the assist!

try your throttle trim and then try to reset the esc. with the controller.. It should be labeld in your booklet that came with it because your throttle might be alittle off... figured something easy to test out .. Good luck.. I know how it is if I can't get the kids r.c's to work wwhen they want ..

Thanks for the info Mathew. I researched what you said and did both (I found the video on Youtube for the ESC) but it didn't fix the problem. It's nice to know that the ESC has three modes though. Now I know how to do that.
Anything else I can try? It triggers at full speed as soon as I turn it on. Pretty crazy now.
