how long do they normally last you? does anybody know of or use steel spur gears? why/why not? i was thinking of getting one for my rc10gt. actually i was thinking about making two, a 60 and a 66. i normally run either a 15/66 ratio or a 22/60 ratio. would this be a good idea?

Unless you set the gear mesh incorretly or you have a engine mount screw come loose a spur gear should last a long time.

i run a RRP spur and CB so they last me forever just need to make sure the mesh is correct.

The two answers given above are the major variable to the equation. If you get and maintain proper gear mesh, you can have a spur gear that lasts the life of the RC.

I have run both plastic and steel spurs. I prefer the steel (just like the sound of ringing metal as the gears go round). If you intend to run a steel spur, I suggest looking into RRP and also into getting a hardened steel clutch bell. Steel spurs can be rough on clutch bells if not properly set up and a hardened steel clutch bell kind of evens out the fight.

thank you! thats exactly what i was looking for. i didnt know if the clutch bell was hardened or not but i guess its not so a steel spur gear may ruin the clutch bell too. so i suppose if i decide to do that ill just buy a set with both. thanks for your help SkyMaxx

It never hurts to ask...and $20 is really not so much to spend on the right part for the job before the wrong part destroys your drivetrain.

So...yes, get the set.
