Spur gear....

What would cause the middle of the spur gear to melt and drip off? Thats what happened to me yesterday. The rusty just stopped going so i turned it off and there was the sound of a humming bird it was the clutch bell still spinning and the spur gear had slide down....MELTED..with a steady stream of smoke coming from the dead peice of plastic. Was the spring and nut to tight? or to loose???

gonna get a metal spur gear also...

sounds like it was to loose and casued friction and heated up the post the spur gear goes on.

spur gear nut was adjusted to loose as stated above friction caused it to melt
