Spur Gear Question (relates to all rc's)

If some one was to make a spur gear with cut out designs in the middle, (flames, symbols etc. and keep it balanced!) would you be interested in it. Also if you had your choice would you rather have it made out of steel, or aluminium?
aluminums could be anodized!

On that note, what are some popular vehicles that have a crappy selection when it come to a good spur gear?

If you where ordering the gear for yourself, what tooth number would you like it to have lets say for your T-maxx or Savage, or maybe even you on -road guys,

I am trying to see what the demand is for something diffrent in the RC world, we anodize and decorate everything in some form or another, and I plan to bring it to our spur gears. Give me your thoughts on this please.

It may be cool but there isn't a lot of space to decorate once you install it under most slipper plates.

Maybe a decorated combo spur and slipper plate would be in order.

Typically spur gears go for 6 - 7 dollars, An andozided aluminium spur gear, I would expect to sell for 10- 15.00

Both my spur gears on my onroad and my buggy are well hidden and not very visible at all once installed. You can see the teeth but not the fron or back of them. I guess if it were anodized a certain color you could match it to a particular color scheme and make it even more bling bling but personally flat black/grey is perfectly fine by me. Its going to get filthy anyway, who cares if its pretty.

A good idea but is it practical? Not to many spurs are visible to the point they need customizing. Unless its a center drive electric chassis.. you will be hiding the design.

Only reason spurs, pinions, or clutch bells are drilled or vented is for spinning mass. Less mass quicker spool up time.

My question would be - is the aluminum strong enough to not tear up when a little rock gets in there? I don't know, that's why I ask.

I would be interested in a designed spur gear - but most of the time you couldn't see it.

you probably wouldn't be able to see the designs very well. maybe one that's super strong and ultra lightweiht.

aluminium is a great material for spur gears, aircraft grade is very strong, and would not be effected as mentioned above, however on vehcicles such as the rc 10 GT a designed spur gear would stand out!

An annodized spur would be pretty cool.... As far as cutting designs in a spur gear, you would definately have to use a balancer to make sure its balanced correctly... An unbalanced spur will create a harmonic vibration between it & the engine causing premature wear....
