Tell me an easy way to get it out. So far, it looks like I have to pull the engine every time I burn it up.

And, this is the gear in my truck: http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/76937/

But the hobby shop has nothing like that for the Sav X. They have a 49t, which I'm not opposed to, but it is set up for the slipper pads on both sides, which I don't have. What do I do?

As far as pulling the spur out, I usually pull the throttle control arm off at the ball joint to give me more room. Then I take a hex wrench to the nut on the spur shaft, remove the slipper spring and... BINGO! It will be very tight, though, so if you have a taller spur you might have to take the motor out.

Maybe its just me but has anyone noticed your LHS not stocking much in the way of HPI parts. I know my lhs is very Traxxas friendly, but stocks very little HPI. Just wondering why that is?

CB is in the way, that's the problem. I was hoping not to have to pull the engine.

My lhs has two carousels of HPI parts, vs six of Traxxas. And they heavily promote Traxxas too. There was a guy in there today who was unsure about a Savage or a Revo, and the employee pushed the Revo hardcore.

So what about a replacement spur? Do I have to get the one I linked above, or can I get one that uses a slipper pad on both sides?

The X came with two different ones I believe. You need to pull yours and see which it is. In theory, the double slipper one would be better, but it had a higher melt rate than the single, so HPI went back to single not too long after coming out with the double. With the XL, they gave up and went with a steel spur which had a single slipper pad.

I always pulled the engine to get at mine. 4 bolts, header spring, throttle ball cup and it's out. If you shelled a spur (burned the teeth off), there's usually a reason. Bad mesh, cracked mount, loose mount bolts, fried CB bearings, fried clutch... almost all of which require the engine to come out anyway.

Guess I need to order a couple when I get paid. Who's the best HPI vendor online?

Tower is one: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJLH5&P=ML
Liquid is cheaper shipping: http://www.liquidrc.com/index.php?m...enid=giigdit1i2jvsd75grm69d32g5&keyword=76937
RC Planet is pretty reliable: http://www.rcplanet.com/HPI_Spur_Gear_p/hpi76937.htm
AMain is as well: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product...oducts_id/19826/n/HPI-47T-Spur-Gear-1m-Savage

You could go nuts and get the steel one: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product...id/54533/n/HPI-47T-Heavy-Duty-Steel-Spur-Gear

May require a hardened bell though. I'm not sure about that. Usually when a steel spur is ran, a hardened bell is mated with it. If not, you end up with something that looks like this in a short time (HPI "normal" bell):

Tower offers discounted prices for quantity, and I should probably keep one or two on hand.

This one sheared high, so I'm thinking the mesh was off from the factory, or it shifted while doing jumps. I didn't see shift marks, so I can only assume it was already off, and that it just finally went, probably too hard on the throttle on landing.

Lol, I guess that's what I get for trying to do backflips off a short ramp.

Yeah, but their shipping is pretty steep. I use liquid whenever I can, especially on the <$50 orders. Paying $5+ shipping is a big chunk on a $20 part list. Towers shipping on one spur is $4.99 for standard shipping.

Ok, thanks. Didn't realize their shipping was that bad.

I thought about the steel spur, but I really don't know what to expect yet from the transmission, and I'd rather pull the engine to fix the spur, than pull the trans to fix the innerds.

U can just take the top off the transmission to change a spur gear its seven screws, four where the roll bar connects and the three on top of the tranny, very fast and easy!!!!

Awesome tip, worked great for me!

Forgot about that split trans...

Mines not as easy as I made a roll bar... and being the dolt that I am, I of course put it right over two of the vertical screws, so I have to take the roll bar clear off. It's not easy either... holes don't match really well. Takes a lot of grunt'n to get the screws in/out of the roll bar.

iam currently running an integgy 49T steel spur gear, with a 16T harcenned vented clutch bell, only the vented are hardened sp dpnt be fooled :) i also have the dual slipper on myne, and since changing to the steel have had no problems, and yes you will have to takt the whole engine out becuase the CB is in the way :/
