Sprucing up an old Slash 2wd

Well, I had to trim the sidewall support from the chassis to get an actual good spec servo to fit. I knew coming into this that it would feel like polishing a turd... man this platform is soooooooo outdated!

Finally got the 3300kv HW motor installed along with 86t spur and 23t pinion. I'll leave the original transmission for now and see how it holds up. I tried some hobby park aluminum wheel hexes, but I don't like the wayt hey fit, so I'll see how the stock plastic holds up.

They seem very sturdy though. The rear only required 2 extra holes on each side. It definitely braces the body well. This body has plenty of life left in it, so I did the conversion to clipless.

dont forget the wheel bearings. mine were shot, going to replace them tomorrow
I checked them and they still have some life in them. I replaced them when I put the RPM bits on.

"I'll just freshen it up." 👌🙄
3 months later and only 2 original parts left on the truck...
Yep... I'm doing the same thing too! 👍🤣
You know they deal!🤣

After breaking the outer steel gear on the diff housing in my Rustler I started using Robinson Racing 7857 Slash 2WD extra hard idler gears in all my 2wd transmissions, the gear teeth are cut the full width of the gear so it has a little more engagement with the diff, for some reason the gears don't line up well in these old transmissions.

Got it all dressed up and ready for the track! Might be a bit before I get the chance to go. I did test it out with stock tires in my driveway, and the brushless 3300kv was a massive power increase over that 12t titan.

My daughter took some interest when I told here the slash was faster now and we had a nice bash session in the driveway! The suspension is buttery smooth with the adjustable GTR shocks on there. Got to have some fun with the slash and the Mojave Grom.

I finally got it to the track today. Right off the bat I broke a front castor block ( the metal pin bent and pulled through the RPM castor). Probably a long time coming. I honestly don't care for alot of RPM parts...just too much flex. I replaced it with aluminum, so it should last a looooong time. For the most part, this truck handles pretty well at the track. As well as it needs to for me to have fun anyways. I just love how I have it set up to have fun at the track and simply change the tires if my kids want to bash it.
