Speed-NT diff junk (Added pics)

I'm sick of this thing. Everything breaks. Just started to get it tuned again, and the diff gear is junk. Just got done replacing the idler and 2nd gears, everything fit perfect, no wobble, good mesh, and now this.

I'm really debating on an idea I had of building a tubular style chassis out of 6061 3/16 aluminum rod. I have 8ft of it, and the means to weld it. Maybe I can find a transmission that would be rock solid, and build this baby from the ground up.

Well, the xxx-nt diff sucked as well. I went with a robinson racing hard anno'd monster diff gear in it, then never had an issue again. Maybe hit them up and see when they are cranking out gears for the speednt.

I have the 2nd gear and idler gear from them, to replace the plastic gears that were sheared flat two weeks ago. I've been bugging them to make a steel diff gear as well, but so far they have no plans to. Reading up on some other forums, this tranny is absolute junk with plastic gears.

Honestly, what I think is happening based on the way the diff gear wore, is that the diff is shifting under load. With the diff out of the trannny, when I grab the outdrives, I can wobble them a little. So when the tires bite, the diff pulls back just enough to offset the mesh. I'm waiting on responses from a few others with the same problem. When I had to diff apart, the internal gears looked solid and meshed well, but I never separated the outdrives. This time I'm going to, since I'll probably have to replace the whole diff anyway.

The diff gear casing itself is about $4.00, and the complete diff is $16.00-$20.00, depending on where I get it. As it stands right now, I'm going to fix it, clean it up, and sell it.

I just don't know what I want to buy to replace it. I want another 1/10 scale, something I can run on road or dirt, maybe I'll get a Jato just to spite Losi.

Well... I can honestly say the jato is pretty tough, but likes to snap off engine ears.

Under the advice of some dufus, I put stampede tires on the rear and that's just a joke. I'm going back to 1/8 scale buggy wheels/tires on it. The weight of the rig is too light to get the stampedes to get any traction at all and it's like driving on ice all the time.

I beat the crap out of my jato and love the thing, except for the engine issue... but I'm hoping with the tire/oil/spring combo, it will fair better this season if I get a chance to run it.

I wanted to go with 1/8 scale buggy tires on the SNT, but with Losi's crappy spindles/axles setup, I can't do anything with it. I was trying to push Pro-Line into making 17mm adapters, but I doubt they will bother.

Is there a good amount of hop-ups for the Jato?

By engine ears, do you mean the tabs where it mounts up?

Does anybody else make something similar to the Speed-NT or Jato that I could also consider?

You could replace the entire jato with aftermarket parts I'd guess.
Yes, the ears/flanges on the crank case that the bolts go through to hold it on. Seems to break when you run too soft of spring/oil and go for big air with flat landings. I've busted 5 so far... thank god for ebay!

every gear on my truck is R.R. and you can't get the aluminum diff gear, all the other gears are steel but the diff is aluminum.Maybe thats y u can't find it,you have the jato?

RRP doesn't make all the gears for the Speed-NT yet, though I have been bugging them about it.

I don't have the Jato yet, but as soon as I fix the Speed-NT, it's getting sold and I'll be getting a Jato right after.

yeah i read what you had after i posted but i had that same prob and it drove me crazy, that sux rrp does not have the gear you need and to be honest if the dont already have it they [prob wont make it either, untill i bought my rr gears i just stocked up on the others!!!do you have a slipper clutch? I want another stadium truck and its lookin like the jato and I'm lookin into the picco 21 for it beacuse my friend has it with the 3.3 and its nice but i seen one with the picco on it and it was way faster and better response

I'm working on getting people to email RRP about making steel diff gears. Hopefully if they think enough people are interested, they'll do a run of them. If they make them before I sell the piece of crap, then I'll buy one, if it works, I'll keep the Speed-NT.

So do me a favor, and tell RRP that they need to make a steel diff gear for the Speed-NT. :)

the diff is aluminum so you might wanna try that email,or you could try computer programing machinests, that gear can be made you just have to know the right ppl.

The diff is plastic, the whole thing except for the planetary gears. And I don't know anybody who can make one. And there's now way I'm shipping a brand new diff off to somebody who says "Maybe I can do it".

So I got to thinking about putting bearings in place of the rubber seals on the outdrives, and pulled the tranny apart to see if the bearings in it would fit in the diff. Unfortunately, they don't but what I found instead is worse. The center shaft that holds the idler gear snapped at the idler gear pin.

Here's a pic of the diff:

Trying something new. Somebody on RCU told me that he sent Losi pics of his broken center shaft, and complained about the poor quality, and they sent him a new center shaft and top shaft. So I did the same, including pics of the diff as well. I guess I'll find out when they reply if they will do anything about it.

If you went through the trouble of sending the pics then they will replace the part,i bought a six hundred dallor rytera alien x bow and their was a hair line crack in my limb and all i did was complain so instead of them sendin a limb they sent a whole new bow fresh of the line so yeah just complain and it will come

or just buy a new one
