Has anyone ever killed an engine and it looked spectacular?

I've only ever killed one engine (an RZ V-01B) and was very disappointed that given how much it cost a year earlier that when it died it just......stopped...no huge bang...no external damage at all.

Inside the crankcase was total carnage, I've never even managed to get the sleeve out, parts of the piston went between the sleeve and crankcase and jammed it completely...If it had to go, I'd rather it had gone with a bang no a wimper thats all!!

I've blown up a lot of engines and all that usually happens is the rod breaks or the rod bearing goes through the cylinder kit and trashes it. You'd have to have a huge power adder to do any real damage to one of these engines because when a failure happens, the parts that fail (ie. the rod) doesn't weigh enough to penetrate the thick cylinder block that houses it. The best you could hope for is to blow the head off and cause a huge fireball and that would require nitrous or a huge installment of boost. I've seen nitromethane (hey, that's basically what we run) take the head off of a drag Harley but that was a mix of mostly nitro and just a bit of methanol. This occured when the rider got scared and got out of the throttle which dumped a big load of fuel into the cylinder with just a small amount of air. The rider had an imprint of the rear head on his chest for about a month.......... hey sorry, I drifted off of the main subject. But I think you get my messgae.........

A freind of mine blew up his .18 once.He snapped the rod and it went right threw the block.I had a picture of it.I'll see if I can find it again.

Yeah you see what i'm getting at!!

If something that is gonna cost that much to replace/repair breaks, the least it could do would be to look spectacular for you! If you happen to (for what ever reason) drive a car/truck into a tree at WOT, its probably gonna look impressive as it gets destroyed.

when my friends engine blew there were a couple sparks, nothing spectacular. at my track though i saw someone's engine catch fire from overheating. i'm pretty sure that killed it (and the rest of the car too).
