What colors are used to back Spaz Stix hard anno paint? I am going to spray a simple one color royal blue for a mini body. I had read that you back it with chrome but what color goes on after the chrome?

Thanks TJ. How many coats of chrome should be used before backing it with the water based black?

One trick I learned when using chrome is to hold a piece of black paper or fabric behind the chrome after a couple coats. That will give you an idea of what it will look like when backed and let you know if you need to spray another coat or 2. I think for most of my chrome work I had to use at least 3 thin coats.

Hey Dom, it all depends on how deep you want the color. The TC body I just finished for you has two light coats of Hard Anno deep red, backed with two very light coats of chrome. But I backed the chrome with silver rather than black, the silver will hit any light spots in the chrome making any slight coverage differences much less noticable. When backing the anno with chrome backing the chrome with black is really not necessary. I'll tell you what, I know you have not seen it yet, but TJ has, the color looks amazing! Just ask him.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm hoping Royal Blue won't change into He-Man Blue. :shhh: lol

Do you guys use the spaz stix surface pre-prep stuff?

Make sure you use at least two to three light coats of the blue. Whatever you do do not put it on heavy, runs show up very pronounced with the hard metals and chromes.

As far as surface prep, I just clean the lid very well with da, then clean it again with da, make sure you don't touch the area to be painted with your fingers before spraying either, or you'll have hard anno fingerprints too.

I am so tempted to just send the body over to you Joe. lol This mini body was special ordered from the UK, with no masks, no overspray film, and no body cut lines. I'd really hate to screw it up!

Thanks again for the advice. I appreciate it!

Send it! I'll hook ya up. I have a good start on your second one, so they should both be on the way back to you by this weekend. You know you can use lm as overspray film, on a mini it wouldnt even use that much. You can use lm or blue painters tape for window masks. But should you decide you don't want to do it, send it on over.

Hey NCNitro... do you have any pics of your work?? I was thinking about candy red and mirror chrome on a TNX body I'm gonna shoot, wondering if deep red would be a better choice.

I just did a deep red for Sweet Diesel, but at the time I had no camera since mine had just died. The color looked amazing though, I love the hard anno deep red. SD had taken a pic or two of it but they were really dark and inside so you really didnt get to see the effect of the hard anno. If he hasn't put it in the boards yet maybe he could snap a few good pics of it outdoors.

I haven't run the body yet. I'll try to snap some pics of it outside.

Thanks guys. That would be great. Have you ever shot candy apple red?? Is there a big difference between deep and candy??
