I've noticed that almost all the engines i hear some the same. even when the are different sizes and have different tuned pipes. the only difference some have is how loud they are. why is this?

when i first got into the nitro part of the hobby i thought i would buy a new pipe and it would sound different. like you can hear the perfomance increase.

I think your ears are broken... but then again, I'm known for my sensitivity to smell and hearing. I am one of the most annoyed people I know. I get annoyed by everything... I really do mean everything.

To me, some of the more expensive engines sound way more crisp and high pitched than the engines I run.

My 2.5R sounds way different than my OS 21 RG in my savage, higher pitch, but softer.

My OS 21 RG in my buggy sounds a lot different than my OS 21 RG in my savage, higher pitch but louder than my revo. It sounds more "throaty" as well.

The only difference between my buggy and savage is the pipes. The savage has the HPI rippled chrome and the buggy has the HPI tuned chrome.

When the omega 21 I had ran, it sounded different in my savage regardless what pipe I had compaired to the RG with the same pipes. Sounded deeper on the low side, muddy in the middle and screamed on the top.

It also makes a big difference in sound due to the load the engine is under, and the gearing it is driving. The same engine with taller gearing pushing more weight will sound throatier than it would with low gearing and a light load while accelerating. There are alot of factors, but to distinguish the sound differences you have to have been around ALOT of different engines for a great deal of time to train your ears.
Unless you are a river boat Captain and have been around 2 or more huge diesel engines for many years without ear protection,,in that case you'd be close to deaf,,as the harmonics would beat the hell out of your ear drums.
