It's an interesting idea and a lot of modern off roaders are using independent suspension on all four corners.
I need to find a way to stuff all that suspension travel into a 1:1 with a traditional SUV body!
The crawler/racer buggies are just nuts!!!😍😍😍

I should just buy a Hummer and get it over with! 🤣

Most of this in the 1:1 world is that the event are mixed, like King of the Hammers. Speed, agility, and crawling are all a factor. King of the Hammers has become the ultimate proving ground for suspension design, and people win with all kinds of setups. It's a fantastic laboratory for design ideas.

In RC crawling, there is nothing to gain from IFS, mostly because the geometry is terrible for steep, technical terrain, the weight penalty significant, and because very few would understand the math to set one up correctly. Further, unless competing in their own class, they will get eaten alive by solid-axle machines. Virtually everything is against them in design; IFS shines at speed. Moving slow is not their bag.

These are "TOY" vehicles and as such we run or build them to have FUN and not with any Man Junk prizes of who's is bigger, gets more action or attention etc ...
Built it ... use it .. enjoying yourself is all that is required ... IMO

Well, here we are nearly 10 months from starting this project.
With MUCH greater research in locating a Planetary gearbox of 42mm O.D. and having 5mm input shaft size, Found a suitable gear box that took many hours of fabrication to make it work in the application.

My original "Compromise" was using a 1/10 scale 2250 kv Outrunner into a AKA: D10 17 to 1 planetary modified to fit the Kraton ... Now I'm back to my original intent and @ gearing now having a Hobbywing Xerun 2250 kv 4274 mated into a 3.7 to 1 planetary.
* The gearbox was 8mm output, machined to be 5mm. Bolt pattern on motor to gearbox required making a custom plate on input side that had correct screw to motor spacing as well width/thickness to place input pinion is correct position. Then the gearbox's screw pattern to plate at motor mount required a fabricated mounting plate. to utilize the Hot racing center diff parts. I spent @ 6 hours fabricating these parts.
Now we're very close, attachment of the motors power wire is all thats now needed to finish up this retrofit.

Wired up and installed .... EXACTLY WAS I WANTED from the start !!!!
It tops out @ 20 mph, and crawls very slow ( Tho not quite a slow as the other motor/box combo )
Running now with the HW motor / esc fully sensored, it now is quiet and smooth as silk having the out runner motor whistle gone and no humming at low rpm ... just sweet !!!

* With a full size 4274 Motor and the Planetary it still fit, tho not by much :jawdrop:
